I would take your "poor painting" over mine any day!
I don't have the steady hands nor eyesight to attempt it these days, so I will just enjoy yours.

Those of you who have made you own cards for your custom planes, do we have a template floating around here somewhere, or are you scanning in and modifying one of your cards?

I generally modify existing cards Bob.
I can do everything except major camo changes, which are done for me.

Look at all those red Fokkers! Nice work. How do you like the Valom Dr.I kits?

  13. #213

    Default

The Valom kits were very fiddly and not particularly suitable for game-handling without massive blobs of epoxy. The quality was excellent but designed for display not gaming.

Well you certainly have a fine group of aircraft there Daniel for whatever purposes you intend to use them.
I must admit that I only use my Valom aircraft for solo games.

Oh! Sorry. I should probably have posted this on the Music Poll thread.
They do look spectacular, however. Any specific reason for the finish?

Are the black/white/red stripes decals, or masked and painted?

    Thanks for your comments, guys.

The b/w/r band around the fuselage is a 10-piece decal, made from an 2.5mm Allied fin flash (blue stripe cut off) and a .75mm black stripe.
The w/r wing stripes were made from a 3mm fin flash, with the blue stripe and half of the red stripe cut off.

Default Kirschstein to Klugermann/Manfred to Wolfram

There are so many beautiful DR-1s out there, that I had to try some repaints myself. Being one of the "Blue Max" minions I had to try a my hand at the Von Klugermann so I started with the Kirschstein since black and white were already incorporated. I "doctored" the crosses to Iron crosses with white paint then stippled in various grey and light green (Model Master "Sky") it a repeating pattern along the top wing. Being an Ares mini, I left the mid and bottom wings alone. The challenge for me was attempting the Von Klugermann crest. I have seen two variations and this one I thought I could accomplish. It's not perfect but was pleased with the result. It fills in with my Brother Bob's Stachel Pfalz DIII kit and his Stachel DR-1 repaint and my Heidemann D-VII repaint. For a nice little Jasta Heidemann!Click image for larger version.

Next I took a Red Baron Ares and did a repaint of cousin Wolfram Freiherr Von Richtholfen. Known mostly as a Luftwaffe Generalfeldmarshall in WWII he got into the air in a DR-1 encouraged by his cousins Manfred and Lothar and it was on his first mission with Manfred, April 21, 1918 that Capt. Brown was credited with downing the Red Baron. Undaunted, Wolfram scored 8 victories before wars end. Here is my version of the Wolfram DR-1.Click image for larger version.

ID:	186744. It was factory issue. I had to mix up a silvery green to get the streakiness that I saw in art work of Wolfram's triplane.

Thank you officer Kyte. I am gratified. Noticing that you have been at this awhile I scanned the profile of a veteran and am amazed at albums you have put together. Incredible amount of work, but inspiring for all to emulate.

    Default Ares Fokker Dr.1

Here is my first DR.1 repaint, an easy one, in the scheme of Joseph Jacobs. This is also my first attempt at home printed decals, and with some help from the members of the forum, I'm pleased with the way they turned out. The model was formerly a MVR plane.
