With your own printer you can print anything you want on the Testor's clear decal paper. Give it a coating or two of clear spray before using the decal you made or the ink will wash off. I make test prints on paper first to get the size right. Only drawback is white is not an option. You can always paint an area white where the decal will go so there will be white where you want it but you may have to paint around the outer edges to cover up any unwanted white later.

I will say that I have had poor results with Testors decals; they turn into little blobs when I try to apply them. I may be due to my out of practice technique, but I put decals from AIM on a P-39 just fine, so....
I just might need a defter touch

Default Now it can be told...

Toward the end of last year, Keith contacted me and asked if I'd be willing to supply a custom painted mini for the 2017 Lend Lease project. Now that the raffle is on, I can post photos of said mini, along with his two Jasta 12 mates.
Oberleutnant Blumenbach, the one with the white cross, is up for grabs in round 4.

I agree, Brian - beauties all three! Well done helping out with the reverse Lend Lease, too

    Keep up the great work...

Beautiful work Brian. Almost a pity to split the three up. But like everyone else, I'd love to get hold of the Blumenbach! All for a good cause.

So, here are my Jasta 12 Dr.I, WSF from Kampfflieger.
They were flown by vFw Ulrich Neckel and Captain Adolf von Tutschek:

Had another play around with Dr over the summer and painted this chap. The plane represents Steinhausers

With the looming possibility of yet another all-red Fokker triplane arriving on my doorstep eventually (Kickstarter does nothing if not test your patience), suggestions on repaints that work with the basic red paint scheme as a starting point?

I've repainted more than a dozen red triplanes, but the most I keep of the original red is the cowling and wheels for some Jasta 11 pilots. Even August Raben's red and white one was a complete repaint. Maybe others have some ideas.

Not the place for this discussion chaps - take it to the Hobby Room please, you'll also get more response there.

I’m very confused - looking right at the listing: Forum - Off Duty - ***Hobby Room*** - Official Fokker Dr1 painting thread. Take it to...the Hobby Room? Is there another? Some other specific place within the Hobby Room? And why can’t we discuss painting Fokker Dr1s on the official Fokker Dr1 painting thread? I’m not trying to be clever or smart, I simply don’t understand your instructions.

Ok...here's a Newbie question. WOG made two versions of the Red Baron's DR.I. One is an all red triplane. The other has only the top wing, cowling, rear fuselage painted red, forward 1/2, middle and lower wings upper surfaces painted green and sky blue under color.
Which one more accurately portrays the Red Baron's aircraft?
I have one completely red and 2 of the partial red. I wanted to depict an accurate Red Baron and the other 2 will be converted to other tripes. Thoughts, suggestions?

Not only are there threads on the red Baron's planes, there are a few on the problems of getting any planes' colors correct. The 'official' color of PC 10 on RFC/RAF planes is another that has yet to be definitively answered for some.

Just to confuse people further, the Triplanes and Tripods Kickstarter will introduce a third Manfred von Richthofen Fokker Dr.1 paint scheme.

As said previously Cyrus, the Baron flew several Dr.1 so take your pick.
I can't recall which are which and can't find the reference now but the first one is the prototype F.1, of the others one was crashed, one was used to visit neighbouring units & a few were used in combat - I'm sure a little digging on t'internet will reveal all for you, along with the debates over what colours/markings were used and the discrepancies between images and models !

Just finished painting a Fokker F.I Triplane that I scratch built from plasticard. Very crude, but it's my first attempt at building something this small!

Painted up as Voss' F.I 103/17:

Mark, you are a crazy man. The effort to make a plane like that from scratch must have been monumental. I know I put in a lot of time to paint my planes but I am not sure I'd attempt what you did. Very good for a first. Great job!

Thanks! The construction itself is not really that hard - I used a papercraft one and shrunk it down to get the gross piece sizes, cut those out and took it from there. The plasticard I originally used was too thin and the wings warped badly, so I had to reinforce them, which is why the wing edges are a bit rough. I've learned a fair bit in the making, so future projects should be slicker. Boxier planes are easier, of course.

The painting was a lot harder, but that's the same for anyone's work on this thread! I definitely need to work on my small scale precision techniques - far too much repainting was done, as you can see on the upper wing white areas. Masking that off would have been more sensible, and I have a bad habit of doing one thick coat instead of multiple thin ones. That doesn't fly at this scale so well.

Originally painted for PragueCon in May of this year, I discovered I had lost the rub-down lettering sheets!!!!
I couldn't find the lettering anywhere (still can't!). I took the plane to Prague in its unfinished state, but didn't get to fly it.
I recently managed to acquire another sheet on ebay, so here is the finished plane, finally, painted to match the scheme I developed for my now infamous Fokker D.VII.

    Thanks Matt.

I'm not sure Ares is correct. I trust Greg Van Wyngarden. His Osprey book on Jagedstaffel 2 'Bolcke' has the version I did with the thick Balkenkreuze and the black wingtips. The plane in it's previous markings did not have the black tips, has Iron Crosses and has a set of Iron Crosses on the lower wing's upper surface.
Either way, it's a pretty plane!
