These Boelcke Jasta tripes look splendid! I really do like the way you're doing your streaked pattern on the green surfaces - it looks great in 1/144 scale...

    All the best,

    Default New Jasta 11 repaints

    Hello,

Here are a few more repaints I've been having fun with from Jasta 11...

First up, here's Weiss - this was previously a MVR model from the Dual Pack. A fairly easy repaint, I painted the white, touched up the wing edges, wing skids, etc, and applied decals.

Next is the unknown pilot - this was a MVR model, the decals are from the aviationwings.com DR1 set. The fuselage decal seems a bit too big so the X on the sides aren't centered very well, but I like how it turned out:

And finally here's Eberhardt Mohnicke - this one has just had the decals applied and still needs a coat of satin varnish to tone down the shine. Decals are also from the aviationwings.com set. I really like how this one turned out:

And here's Jasta 11 flying together: Not sure if/when I'll do the other two from the famous photo. I think I'll do a few others and maybe come back to them later.

You have made a very nice job of those Brian.
That unknown pilot is well known to us in Notts as it is regularly flown by my arch nemisis Christophe von Rogerstein. Chris Rogers.
I am hoping that together with the help of Captain Kiwi, I will be able to disconcert him in our next encounter.

It looks a lot better as a mini than in the photos - I'm quite disappointed that I
just can't seem to get shots of the mini without the varnish showing up as white
    patches.
Man - i tell you though - that Red Baron red is a hard colour to quash by over-painting!

Cheers all - hope you like it.

On my first repaint (Joseph Jacobs in this thread) I didn't use a primer and the red was difficult to cover, even with black paint. Since then I've had good success using the Tamiya primer - I give the model a couple of coats of primer before painting - it covers up the red nicely and seems to give a good new base coat to start the repaint from.

Great work on that black & yellow one, it looks great!

    Hi all,

I played around with a Dr.I to see how much detail in the models can be brought out with a few painting techniques.

The dragon was passant, but it looked a bit too Welsh for the Central Powers.

Joints and depressions between ribs were shaded with inks, and edges highlighted with the edge of a brush.

The decals are made with laser decal paper. I checked with a German mate about the correct noun conjugation.

A dullcoat spray was used at the end to even out the paint job.

The paint scheme is completely fictitious, but I quite like it and might use it on a few more. (Next up is a Gotha, for which I printed kraken decals.) It's really nice how much the models can be polished!

    Hello
Is it possible to use decals in order to change some WOG-WOW airplanes and avoid repainting them ?
I have 2 Fokker DR1 with MvR and would like to make a change for one of them ?
Dito for 2 Spad XIII Luke and 2 Albatros D.VA (Baumer).

Thanks all. You are very kind.

Bastien, it's certainly possible. I don't know of any pre-made decals with historical 1/144 markings, but decal paper to print your own is great. This is especially so if you have access to a laser printer. (Note: laser and inkjet paper are different! Using inkjet paper in a laser can fill the machine with melted plastic!)

Here's a custom paint scheme I did recently for a fellow Dr.1 pilot.
This was previously an Ares MVR model, paint by Vallejo, decals by AviationWings, custom 'Jake' decal is home printed on Testors clear decal paper.

I am not sure who created the card front. It is not my work. I did up the back side but I have downloaded so many cards from this forum I do not remember who the originator of this work is. It looks like Mike’s (Oldguy) work but not for sure.

    ...
There are a few people doing cards, and Steve [Guntruck] was doing card backs well before me. Steve was also doing WGF versions when he started, IIRC, so he has many more of them than me. This could be one of his, but it isn't one of mine. BTW: going forward, all of my cards should have the Areodrome logo on them, to identify them as 'non-Ares' or 'non-Nexus' cards
