Looking at your Dr1 makes me wonder why Jacobs wasn't picked for series 1.
It really is a stunner. You have done a superb job

Well actually... on my first attempt (same project) I had used pledge/future as a coating on the decals before I cut and applied them. The coating didn't hold up and ink ran everywhere. I was about ready to when I asked for help on the forum. With the help I received there I tried Krylon Clear as a coating instead of pledge/future. Things went much better after that

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone.

Lovely work here, Kelly! Von Greim's has always been a neat looking plane, to my mind...and the matching card seals the deal

Came home with a red Fokker DR.1 today with either black or green in mind as overall colour. Thanks to these pictures the Wife prefers green to black!

Only just noticed that the pilot in the Ares Games Fokker DR.1 looks as if he needs to sit on a cushion! Any ideas as to how I can improve on this as I have two DR.1s now being flown by midgets!

I have discovered this if you use your phone camera - try and rotate the photo as much as you like this is what will be displayed. At least your image is not upside down anyway - That's a great start painting. I am getting my painting motivation back after a month away plane spotting but I have only ever repainted one for WGF - Nieuport Ni.28. Fokker DR.1 into green next followed by captured Albatros D.Va when more research has been done

    Default MVR - 425/17 to 477/17

I wanted to change the traditional 425/17 "Death DR.1" into the DR.1 in which MVR had the most success - 477/17. You can view the whole process on my profile if you wish.

This card is most likely Steve's [Guntruck] work, as he tends to use Wings of Glory templates. I like the Wings of War cards.

Very nice Brian, this is one on my list as well.

The Voss triplane was a pre-production Fokker F1 with some subtle differences to the Dr.I, the most obvious being the lack of lower wing skids.

Very true - I learned a lot about Voss from the Osprey Dr.1 book which pointed out that his was a pre-production model. So the decals I used are wrong - they say Dr.1 rather than F1. I also found it interesting that there is some debate about whether the cowling was green or yellow. I found out about the origin of the face marks on the cowling, and that Voss was killed on the day he was supposed to take leave - his brothers actually showed up to meet him and they had a photograph together. Voss then went on one last patrol that morning and didn't make it back.

Learning about the pilots gives you a tiny bit of insight into what their life was like and it makes the game come alive. Doing repaints like this of a pilot I "know" is very enjoyable.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, this was a fun project.

This Fokker would have fitted perfectly into the Jagdgeschwader 1 ("Richthofen's Flying Circus").
I guess Richthofen would have claimed this one for himself

I repainted my Manfred von Richthofen Dual Pack Fokker Dr.I as another Jasta 11 triplane flown by Leutnant Hans Weiss. Weiss was flying this machine with the Rittmeister on the day von Richthofen was killed. At the time Weiss was acting commander of Jasta 11 and continued in that role until he was fell in combat on 2 May 1918. At the time of his death Ltn. Weiss had been credited with 16 victories.
