Quite the colorful flight of Dreidecker, Felix! I also agree that the whole wing edge issue leaves me a bit flat - on my repaints I paint the wing edge, but I haven't gotten around to doing it on all my planes yet...

    All the best,
    Matt

Great advancement. Are the stroke decals of the same pattern? Manfred's seem almost white, but I guess the light source is the cause? I like the Lothar Variant the most.

    Cheers Florian,
Yes, the stroke are decals. Pattern is the same, but they are two color variants: Lothar's are more olive-brownish, Manfred more olive-greenish.

I have stockpiled mehusla's 1/144 direct decal sheets for similar use; just haven't had time to get to them yet....................

You've made a grand job of that pair, Ezekiel!

Mehusla had some really good decals. It's a shame he is not in business anymore

    Default So Many Fokkers...

Having considered it for a while decided to paint the Nexus MvR Dr.1 from the deluxe set I picked up recently into a personal scheme previously used on a captured Nieuport 17 & Fokker D.VII:

Peter Pig pilot figure used - the one with the bomb but with the bomb cut away it looks like he's shaking his fist at the enemy...Or something like that !

Black, white & GW Blood Red used; tail rounded off & repainted.

I doubt it, it's featured on the forum since 2012 but matters not, they all look good in the scheme.

Not quite. 425/17 only had Balkankreuz for less a a week, IIRC only a day or two; the Iron Cross version only needs the white fields replaced with red to represent most of 425/17's life. I'm looking for an Early Ares to correct myself so I can set my Nexus original aside to preserve as a collectible...

The white fields are incorrect - that was the point - and although it certainly had the standard iron cross markings he only got two victories with that machine the day before he died when it would have had the balkenkreuz.
Check out Tusekine's collection sale DB, I think he had some Nexus MvR's listed.

That's the rub, Nexus 425/17 has a higher value to collectors, so I'd rather leave it for them. Thanks for the headsup, though.

    Default Werner Voss F.1

or..The Story of the Legless Fokker:

I obtained this Fokker Dr1 from a mate of mine when he was tidying up his collection - it started life as a Nexus WoW all red MvR but something was amiss as you will see.
I decided long ago I wanted to do a repaint to represent Werner Voss' Fokker F.1 103 and this was the only donor I had available so I ploughed on with it.
First I removed the wing tip skids from the lower wings then rounded out the tail a bit...elevators & rudder... I also relocated the cabane struts and glued them in place

Then I painted the whole thing sky blue bar the tail which was painted white

After that had dried thoroughly I dry brushed the upper sides & fuselage with Humbrol 86 olive green and used the same paint on the cowling.

Once dried I painted the face on the cowling - very fiddly but I hope I caught the essence

and finally I added the decals (Dom's decals), a Peter Pig pilot then sealed & varnished the whole lot.

Of course the more astute of you will have spotted that Werner had sadly lost his undercart, the reason behind this threads sub-title.
My appeal was answered and with many thanks to his generous benefactor - Steve (Guntruck) - he is now whole again !

    It's a Christmas miracle - he got legs !

Other than what was lacking I was quite happy with the model and how it's turned out, the blue really shows through and though I thought to try another technique decided to quit while I was ahead !

Is it more historically accurate to remove the wing skids from the Dr.I models? Just curious about the rationale on that... they are too large?

edit: reading is fundamental. Found the answer earlier in this thread -- the prototypes did not have them. Carry on.
