Spanish Civil War Me-109 - Condor Legion

These are the first Scotia Grendel 1/200 planes that I've painted.

They don't have as much detail as AIM miniatures, but they're cheap and their lines are very close to the original.

My Spanish Civil War needed them and so they came. I'm quite impressed with them. For £1.5 one cannot as for more.

The second batch I bought came with some problems and Costumer Service wasn't that good. It's my well known bad luck...

I'm going to paint the FW-190 and then I'll decide if I forgive them...

My I-16's are aching for a fight...

Here we go with Shapeways Bf 109 F 1/200 trop (without the proper filter, ouch...), that could be used as G-2 version as well. I made 3 of them for the Med theatre and 3 others are in the works for the Eastern Front. They were printed in WSF, as you can see thanks to my good digital camera However, from a table top distance they are perfect.
All of them are historical schemes of JG 53 based in Africa. They will serve as opponents to my Skalski Circus (in the works...)

    Thanks!
@Richard: There was a generic left over German 1/200 markings sheet plus a special one I bought for Bf 110 with shark mouths (I used them before) and the "spads" (used now). I have a really hard time to recall the seller... If that was not Doms Decals, that must have been an ebay supplier...They are pretty good ones (majority of them survives acrylic varnish...)

You are certainly working hard on all these new models.
I also think the colours are superb.

Indeed, David. Two months of service in Africa with a good score: 25 kills confirmed, 3 probables at the cost of 1 pilot shot down and captured. I am decaling 4 Spits V trop in their colors, although Mark IX was their main weapon (I have the official releases).

    Dear Daniel,

African theatre was always of my interest. Biplanes, top fighters, different missions and - above all - eggs fried on hot tanks' armour ( I love eggs:P
So - yes, we will fight in Africa.
But since Honza, Jakub and you presented that impressive EF map/mat (I printed it today on vinyl and the printer assistant got really mad about it!), my second project is EF and "white" planes. I have started colecting special planes for that, including Bf 109F/G, FW 190A, Airacobras, HS 129s. The winter is coming. This winter you shall see my growing air forces of the Eastern Front

A nice 150% Rotte of Messerschmitts, Andrzej!

Desert warfare is an good option for the next Summer Con.

    I can add 2x 109, 1 Spit and 1 Hurry.

I was trying to get the colour balance right on the Hurry decals, so these weren't as good as my first attempt with Olt Fiel's plane.

So, the "Pik As" now have a Schwarm, or two Rotten for attacks on Britain.

I painted these JG-54 Messerschmitts for my Lake Ladoga (Siege of Leningrad) game I ran this weekend at Marscon. I ordered Bf-109E models from AIM and converted two of them into Bf-109Fs (see my post here for details on how I accomplished that)

I am quite pleased with the decal work on Yellow 9, flown by Hans-Ekkehard Bob. I created the squiggle mark by piecing together two parts of a zero with one part of a 9. I modeled the plane on the aircraft illustration shown here (it is the first plane shown).

These two picture shows the comparison between the Bf-109F "Yellow 9" and the Bf-109E flown by Hans Philipp. I am very pleased with how the paint mixing coloring came out on the 109E wings.

This picture show the Bf-109F -- also flown by Hans Philipp. I created the chevron and bars decals by piecing together the black border stripe of a Zvezda decal sheet.

Here comes the second Rotte of Friedrichs/Early Gustavs [G-2] (the models may mimic both types) of mine. Besides the desert schemes of JG 53, now I have completed three generic ones, 2 grays suitable for Channel dogfights and all three ready for the Eastern Front. All of them were painted with original RLM 74/75/76 colours, a rather typical scheme of the type and era. Then a washable (thinned) white was airbrushed over the "blue 3" leaving some underneath camo design visible.
The models are Shapeways WSF, so in the eye of a digital camera you can see a grainy surface, but I can assure you, on the table they look quite fine.
I am especially pleased with the snowy blue 3, which turned out IMHO.
They all are part of the force made especially for Prague Con 2015

Those 109G's are very sharp looking. Well done!

I agree with you on the digital pictures picking up the mold graining. I hold myself to the standard of having planes that are table ready -- then I take close up digital pictures and roll my eyes at the graining.

Andy having seen Sparky's ME's up close and personal I can only admire the time and effort spent painting and adding decals to what really are very small models. They look superb. I'm only sorry I can't be there to fly with or against them in Prague this year.
