Thank you for your comments! I hope Valom soon restocks the D.V decals, so I can finish the last two of my 28w planes.
Hi all,
I just painted these two up today, and thought some folks might enjoy them. The first is one that proably needs no introduction - Werner Voss of Jasta 5.

For the second, I figured I'd try one I haven't seen posted elsewhere - Bruno Lorzer of Jasta 26.

Nice work James. The J26 bird is really sharp.
Great job!
Nice repaints, James. I always enjoy Jasta 26 zebra stripes.
The impressiveness is...impressive.
Superb workmanship! These freehand markings are amazing.
James.

Thank you very much, I appreciate all of your responses. I'm hoping that there will be more repaints soon to come!
Great work James, I wish I had the patience to do that.
Very nice work John. Keep it up.
Blimey, nice work
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Re-paints of the Ares Gruber Albatros DIII
The white one is Oblt Hans Bethge, D2147/16 (March/April 1917) and the green one is Lt Otto Fuchs (June 1917) - taken from the Aeronaut book on Jasta 30. There was no picture of the upper wing surfaces, but the text specifically says that upper surface of the top wing and elevators were white. The contemporary photos of other Jasta 30 DIII planes show the light green / rust brown / dark green pattern so I used that for the bottom wing upper surface. Nothing was mentioned for Otto Fuchs' DIII so I've gone with the same paint scheme even though his 'bilious' green plane is a bit latter. The text says only the fuselage, but the profile also shows the tail as 'bilious' green. The author and Otto Fuchs recreated 'bilious' green and the colour on the model is pretty close to what's in the Aeronaut book.
Under wing surfaces are the usual light blue.
Overall a very easy repaint. These will make their appearance in the latter part of the current OTT campaign.
Nice looking duo, Paul. Look forward to seeing them in action bringing some bulldogs to heel.
Nice work guys - very nice work indeed from both James and Paul
Very good, Paul, for all the 'simplicity'.
You have done a grand job there Paul. I love the subtle colours.

Hi Sam, simple can sometimes be more difficult to do well than complex where you have a lot of decals to draw the eye.
Thanks, Rob. I wasn't sure how it would look with the early 1917 wing camo as the book only shows profiles, but I'm happy with it. Had considered green-mauve for Fuchs but went with camo to match the Obltn's plane.
Thanks, Phillip.

Lovely bloody April squadron.
Lovely!
Still new stuff on almost every post I find. Did not know about radiator decals from 1/144 direct, nor the shapeways peg attachment. Your Voss D.III soooooooo much superior to ares, great job Tim on all of these. Beautiful.
Awesome work, Tim. Those are gorgeous
Thanks, everybody!
And double thanks for the Rep!
Plenty more Albatrossyness to come.....

Beautiful work - again - Tim. Remind me - Just how many painted Albatros aircraft do you now have? That's counting all scouts from DI onwards. I'd love to know. And how many more to come?
The collection must be quite something
Radiator decals - there were no more than 3 or 4 on each sheet of crosses, so it was important to purchase a lot of sheets to get hold of enough.
Each of the sheets also carried Weight Table decals, visible on the 'Kinkel' and 'Unknown Pilot' planes shown above.
Shapeways peg attachments, see here :- https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...ght-stand-pegs
I can't find Daryl's original Post about these - PM him if you need more information.
The Shapeways 'Voss' was a long time coming - I think the 'Nexus' Alb. D.III sculpt, re-issued as the 'Ares' Alb. D.III sculpt, is the second worst one they have done, bested only by the Sopwith Triplane, so I just had to "replace" it.
Glad you like 'em!

Hmmm, lemme see...
Completed:
D.I .......... 16
D.II .......... 4 (+1 'Ares')
D.III ........ 17 (+ 6 'Nexus' and 'Ares')
D.V/D.Va .. 19 (+ 7 'Nexus' and 'Ares')
I thought that Albs of various types should make up at least 1/3 of the Collection's total number of German scouts throughout the War, hence the recent "Albatrossyness" output since they were seriously under-represented.
Still to come:
D.I .......... 3
D.II ......... loads!
D.III ........ loads!
D.V/D.Va .. loads!
But there's other stuff to do as well...

Superb! The paint and decal jobs look perfect even under the high magnification of the camera.
I especially appreciate the Jasta 2 paint jobs, as you can tell by my avatar.
Very nicely done Tim.
Love the work Paul keep it up.
Great. Lots more to look forward to then Seems I have a bit of catching up to do - I don't have nearly enough - Mmmm what will Yon think of that comment I wonderHmmm, lemme see...

Mike, I think I can guess what Yon would have to say about your comment...

I love the F-Toys DIIIs but I wish they had brought out a few more. I managed to get my hands on two of their Blaue Maus machines. One I kept in its original paintwork and the other I converted to Werner Voss's plane. Here they are side by side. They will form the basis of my Jasta 2 flight.
Here is the re-paint of Voss's aircraft.
And here is the F-Toys Blaue Maus above the Ares model. As you can see the Ares model is a much darker blue and I think the F-Toys model is much more true to the correct colour scheme. I suspect I will be re-painting the Ares model to another Jasta 2 aircraft at some stage.
