I wish I had even an ounce of the talents displayed in this thread. Fantastic work! Very inspiring.
Another very well produced offering Kev.
Rob.
They look great.
More great work! I wish I had the time to paint that you seem to!
Its my full time job.
Ah, that explains much. Great for you (I think and hope)!
Two more very fine paint jobs.
Rob.
Very nice planes. You're Boelke jasta is getting quite formidable. Lloyd
Thanks Lloyd. Jasta Boelcke is now finished. I moving on to Sea Planes now. Albatros W.4's and Hansa-Brandenberg W.12's
Love this thread. All of you guys' work is outstanding!
A couple more DIII

Sigismund von Josipovich Flik 51J
At this rate we are going to need some Ares play mats with mountain terrain Chris.

Beautiful work, Jörgen! I just love the Oefag Albatros. More horsepower, tougher construction, it really was the Albatros at its peak! Its different nose build gave it a killer look as well.
Nice planes, Chris. Good to see some Oeffags join the flock. Lloyd
I need to paint my Albatross D.III up , but first I'll need to get some Maltese crosses for my F- Toy plane from Dom's Decals.
Thanks for the advice Nigel , this plane is on my to do list of customs so once I finally can get near my table in the conservatory I'll get cracking with the paint brushes.
Great thread. Very very nice painting. I have an extra DIII Hautzemayer, and wondering how I should repaint it.
Any help appreciated.

You can never have enough Albatros D.III's.
Here, have some inspiration:

A very nifty repaint there Nigel.
I really love the great varnished plywood effect you have achieved.
Rob.
Thanks for the painting info Nigel.
I have all those to hand, so will have a play on my next wood fuselage.
Rob.
Great pics and great choice Nigel

More DIII all using Cal Faber decals.
unfortunately the Wichard & Jacobsen I can only show one side as the serial number decal disintegrated into solo numbers when a wet brush was applied to the rear of the decal, only flaw I found, rst of the decals are superb. I have let Cal know and waiting for a responce

My first attempts at painting a miniature. You never know how small they are until you begin, and a 2" wingspan is not the easiest thing to handle with 48 year old eyes. This is a Shapeways miniature Albatros DIII painted as Lt. Krefft's plane (D.1949/16) from Jasta 11. I am a graphic designer by trade but used to a large screen and a mouse as opposed to a small mini and a 000 Brush. Hope these look good to you folks. Thanks for taking a gander at them.
Excellent job on this bird!
Thank you! My family dropped the second "f" from "Krefft" when they arrived in the US at the turn of the last century. I wanted to have a plane that represented someone who might be related in a distant way. Hard to find information on his life outside of Jasta 11 but I am going to keep digging. In the mean time, my son and I can take turns flying his plane during our gaming.
Do not dispair Paul.
Your eyesight has not let you down. It is a very nice job for a first effort.
As I am registered partially sighted I can understand the transition from screen to 144 scale. Have you thought about a magnifying lens? I have one on a stand with a back light to it and find it very useful for the fine detail.
Rob.
Anthony, this is the third repaint of yours I have seen in the past few minutes. You have much skill. I admire your work.
Yet another superb rendition Jorgen.
Just don't tell anyone who is flying it and it may last some time.

Great looking kites! Very nicely done, gentlemen!
My Shapeways Alb DIII models, from Decapod, treated with 2 coats white glue/water, painted with Delta Ceramcoat and Vallejo paints, decals by 1/144 direct on Ebay. First up is Ltn Ulrich Neckel, 30 victory ace depicted in his Jasta 12 bird;
Next up is Ltn Franz Muller, Jasta 11 in his DIII
Enjoy gentlemen, of course any comments or criticism is appreciated.
Top Notch William !
Thanks Dave. I am quite pleased with how they turned out. The Decapod WSF models were very nicely done which I'm sure helped me in my efforts. I plan to get 4 more DIII' to cover the Jasta 12 decals from Aviation Wings. I really like the Jasta' color scheme and am thinking a flight of 5 birds from the Jasta would look great on the table. Now just to make sure they don't get shot up too quickly.
Here's a Shapeways repaint I finished recently. It is an Albatross D.III flown by Obltn. Josef Loeser.
This marks the first time I have tried using Far East's masking technique. For those who are interested, his original how-to article is here:

EDIT: I did a little touching up in this model. You can find photos of the finished product on the next page.

Not a bad job for a first effort Cole.
Red on white is the most unforgiving combo.

Thanks Rob! Do you think there was something I could have done a bit better?
Hey Cole, I would suggest hitting it with a dull coat. It might be the photos, but it looks a little shiny from here. Other, it loos pretty good to me!
Thanks for the reply Herr Oberst! I actually hit it with a gloss coat thinking that would make it look better - thus the shininess. Is it usually better to go with a dull coat in your opinion?
I will normally apply a gloss coat after painting, but before adding he decals. This helps to blend the decals in with the model a little more. Once all that is good and dry, I hit with a dull coat. Real combat planes are always dull (except the WWII US planes after they had air superiority, then they were not painted at all). When you are flying around trying to shoot someone down... or not get shot down your self, the last thing you want is the sun reflecting off your shiny plane
