Thread: How to: A quick and easy UFAG C-I repaint!

Default How to: A quick and easy UFAG C-I repaint!

I wanted to find a way of using some of the surplus two seaters I have laying around. I had sorted all my aircraft cards into business card holders in a three ring binder. While searching through them for an idea, I noticed I had two different cards for UFAG C-I, but the same unit. One comes with the aircraft, the other appears to be a Promo card with slightly different colors. Here was my repaint!

I attempted to soak of the upper wing decals, but they seem to well sealed to remove without chemicals. I decided to attempt the repaint with the decals on by using a wash.

The color chosen for the wash was an acrylic called golden mustard. It has been a favorite of mine whenever I've needed a deep golden yellow.

It took a couple of tries to get the right consistancy for the paint. As it dried, I simply damp brushed the finish to thin it out and give it a weathered look.

Next, I took a damp micro brush and simply cleaned off the decals on the upper wings, as well as cleaning up around the edges under the horizontel sufaces.

I'm very satisfied with the results. Now to touch up the engine and the machine gun and I have a completey different UFAG with an issued card!

    Very neatly done James.
I often look at existing cards to emulate when I do my repaints, but had not spotted this one previously.
