Thread: My new hommade mat

    Default My new hommade mat

Inspired by some fantastic mats made by other forumers, I decided to make one on my own. A regular green artificial grass mat 200*100 cm was bought for 7€ (YES!). The gum base seemed to guarantee the mat will lie flat. And it does.

Then some black lines were applied with a permanent marker to outline country roads and fields.

After that, different acrylic paints were sprayed using an airbrush and the no man's land was sprayed over it in the middle. Finally the trench pattern was done.
It's huge. I like it a lot. It took half a day to complete it and I finished it around 3:00 am tonight. You should have seen my wife's face in the morning when she entered the living room!

Looks really good! You should add some craters to No Man's land though.

You are right, Herr Oberst. Will try to add them

    Inspirational in it's own right!

What's the brand of the mat and where did you find it?

    Thumbs up

    Nice Worl Andrzej!
What thickness (height) is the grass?

Also agree with Keith some craters on No Mans Land will be a Plus.

If you need some ideas on how to draw the craters in, just look at the ones on the Nexus mats or even the card backgrounds.

For those of you chaps interested in the mat:

I bought it in LIDL market in my home town.
...I tried to post a pdf with a leaflet here but it doesn't show up.

    So what i read there...
FLORABEST Artificial Grass Mat, producer: Orotex Belgium N.V., Ingelmunstersteenweg 162, B-8780 Oostrozebeke.
Petitbilbo! somewhere near your place, maybe... Barry - it's hard to say, for it's not like - for example Citadels mat where you see the grass. This mat is kind of thick pressed fiber. Like 4 mm with the gum base.

Nice! Your mat seems to lie flat, mine doesn't do that unfortunately as I store it rolled up. :P

very cool! but a question, with the new bomber coming on the scene is there any thought about making new mats? I do have the east and west ones, which are great for the fighters but might need some more room for the big guys. I have a large peice of blue felt with a couple of clouds painted on which i use but was just wondering if new mats are on the way like the new planes.

That's because you were not supposed to make it out of the living room carpet

Super Nice, to me, It doesn't look home-made. Between yours and Wombat's, their the best I've seen. Forget WOW's mat's, I must make one of these. But like its been mentioned, it does need the crater's, Wombats looks so 3-D. But, if you didn't it would still be a Great game-mat, I would be very satisfied the way it is, Awesome work!!!

Beautiful mat. I made mine from heavy cardboard so that I can fold it easily and put inside a case. Small house...

It is very nice, and inexpensive, specially with your talent to make such things (I still remember SoG mat you posted at Anchorage)

A great piece of work, Andrzej!

I have wondered whether 30cm x 30cm carpet tiles could be use to make a playing surface. They come in different colours.

    Thank you
I am sure they can be of use. The only problem could be their regular shape, but I think if you mix only low contrast tiles, they would make a very nice surface!
