Good to see that Snoopy is on his case Dave.

Okay - here's the repaint I discussed in October's hobby room...
New kit in the box.

With a couple of photos of it out of the box... :p

It looks a lot better as a mini than in the photos - I'm quite disappointed that I
just can't seem to get shots of the mini without the varnish showing up as white
patches.
Man - i tell you though - that Red Baron red is a hard colour to quash by over-painting!
Cheers all - hope you like it. :drinks:
Very nice Philip :hatsoff:
Cool color scheme, nice work Philip
Thank you gentle sirs! :thankyou:
On my first repaint (Joseph Jacobs in this thread) I didn't use a primer and the red was difficult to cover, even with black paint. Since then I've had good success using the Tamiya primer - I give the model a couple of coats of primer before painting - it covers up the red nicely and seems to give a good new base coat to start the repaint from.
Great work on that black & yellow one, it looks great!
Hi all,
I played around with a Dr.I to see how much detail in the models can be brought out with a few painting techniques.
The dragon was passant, but it looked a bit too Welsh for the Central Powers.
Attachment 217213
Joints and depressions between ribs were shaded with inks, and edges highlighted with the edge of a brush.
Attachment 217214
Missing details were painted on, such as on the engine.
Attachment 217216
The decals are made with laser decal paper. I checked with a German mate about the correct noun conjugation.
Attachment 217215
A dullcoat spray was used at the end to even out the paint job.
The paint scheme is completely fictitious, but I quite like it and might use it on a few more. (Next up is a Gotha, for which I printed kraken decals.) It's really nice how much the models can be polished!
Very nicely done, sir!
Have a shot of REP!
Nice job! REP also.
Good job Muerto, very nice!

OK, NOW YOU'VE GONE AND DONE IT..... Those are all very inspirational!!! Now I HAVE to go and get MY squadron!! LOL :p
Stunning Muerto!
Great job Muerto....everyone should have a non historical plane...incoming rep.
Outstanding paint job.
Hello
Is it possible to use decals in order to change some WOG-WOW airplanes and avoid repainting them ?
I have 2 Fokker DR1 with MvR and would like to make a change for one of them ?
Dito for 2 Spad XIII Luke and 2 Albatros D.VA (Baumer).
I just love the DR.I for repainting. All these photos show amazing work. The Dragon is top-notch, just top-notch!:sAprvd:
Thanks all. You are very kind.
Bastien, it's certainly possible. I don't know of any pre-made decals with historical 1/144 markings, but decal paper to print your own is great. This is especially so if you have access to a laser printer. (Note: laser and inkjet paper are different! Using inkjet paper in a laser can fill the machine with melted plastic!)
Hi Bastien the following sell commertially printed decals for 1/144 models, I have used all and all are recommended
Doms Decals, he has a few sets for Nieuports, Albatross, Snipes and DR1 from UK
1/144 Direct on ebay ( Mehulsa) a large range of decals for all sides of the war, Uk
The Aerodrome Accessories may still have some decals for Dr1 and Albatross uS
The Tin Soldier also from US has a range of decals for markings try here http://tin-soldier.com/centralpowersdecals.html
Here's a custom paint scheme I did recently for a fellow Dr.1 pilot.
This was previously an Ares MVR model, paint by Vallejo, decals by AviationWings, custom 'Jake' decal is home printed on Testors clear decal paper.

A nice bit of work by all of you
Great trio there!
Rep!
There are a few people doing cards, and Steve [Guntruck] was doing card backs well before me. Steve was also doing WGF versions when he started, IIRC, so he has many more of them than me. This could be one of his, but it isn't one of mine. BTW: going forward, all of my cards should have the Areodrome logo on them, to identify them as 'non-Ares' or 'non-Nexus' cards
Great paintjobs on your triplanes, Brian, especially with the streaked Fokker camo.
Fokker Dr.I's are always fun to paint.....Very nicely done Brian.....Rep!
Those are some REALLY NICE planes. I noticed some painters say they use Testors clear decal paper, how does that work?
With your own printer you can print anything you want on the Testor's clear decal paper. Give it a coating or two of clear spray before using the decal you made or the ink will wash off. I make test prints on paper first to get the size right. Only drawback is white is not an option. You can always paint an area white where the decal will go so there will be white where you want it but you may have to paint around the outer edges to cover up any unwanted white later.
Toward the end of last year, Keith contacted me and asked if I'd be willing to supply a custom painted mini for the 2017 Lend Lease project. Now that the raffle is on, I can post photos of said mini, along with his two Jasta 12 mates.
Oberleutnant Blumenbach, the one with the white cross, is up for grabs in round 4.

They look great
I agree, Brian - beauties all three! Well done helping out with the reverse Lend Lease, too:sAprvd:
Keep up the great work...
All the best,
Matt
They look great Brian. Hope I get to win one of them!
Super Tripes, Brian! :clap::clap:
I will be most upset if I don't win your Blumenbach
Very nice! I'm also painting two jasta 12 Dr.Is (Neckel and von Tutschek). I'll post pictures soon.
Beautiful work Brian. Almost a pity to split the three up. But like everyone else, I'd love to get hold of the Blumenbach! All for a good cause.
So, here are my Jasta 12 Dr.I, WSF from Kampfflieger.
They were flown by vFw Ulrich Neckel and Captain Adolf von Tutschek:
