Some progress here in reality, or what I like to call reality. Elves had to slow down to find the lozenge box . . .

That's more like it, now where did I put those props . . .

And some without lozenges

Unreal Dave and Ken. Great work as always
Order from AIM came today so my new project is starting. Something to do with Spitfire MK IX.
OK November became December and we are nearly finished with the diversion intended for my grandsons - back to aircraft soon. :)

Just some sanding, varnishing with child friendly varnish (my daughter wants the castle left in natural wood) and the addition of a couple of flights of steps, the floor for the keep (which will store the soldiers made of pegs) and perhaps a market stall for inside, and we are done. Believe it or not, it is also almost the perfect size for 28mm medieval figures too - not planned I promise :)

Brilliant Mike. I'd wager there are a few on this site that would like one of these.
Mike, will it have a drawbridge?
Yep. Indeed it shall, hopefully with a means of raising and lowering it, strong enough to be used by a five year old :) Sorry, no commissions :( Too many Shapeways aircraft to paint, and I do now have to start on a shield for a five year old maiden, who seems to be into swords and stuff !!!!! :)Quote:

Well, swordmaidens need to be encouraged.

Hmmm...12 to 14 Ga Alum rings on the chain in a 4 in 1 pattern...check
leather looks like about 6 Oz on a 2 or 4 oz backing...check
Fur looks like that fake stuff you can get at Jo Anns....check
Foam sword...hmmm...got one in the basement just like it.
Horse...ahh...got a few cats almost that big...smile
Yep...with the right patterns I could make that stuff easy enough.
Oh I do love that. If my grandaughter sees this photo she'll really want that. My son is a cavalry re-enactor too, so the pony shouldn't be a problem. But chain mail and leather oooooo! Is the chain mail metal and if so rings or riveted? Now riveted would be spectacular, but given the young swordmaiden will grow out of it fairly quickly I'd say probably rings is also fantastic :)Quote:

Now back in the days of yore, I did do this on horseback myself - boy did I enjoy that - we did Hastings a couple of times too.

But I digress - sorry! Back to the castle - There you go Robert. The hinges are fabric (couldn't find any leather suitable), glued and tacked with chopped down tacks. All is now done bar Sanding and varnishing. I do hope its ready for santa to deliver :)

Picture two shows the Main Keep entrance plus seperate steps for access; pic three is all the bits including steps for the main wall, a base for the keep and the top floor for the keep. Everything is seperate, so its going to be interesting to see how the young ones put it all together :)
Lucky me huh :)Quote:
I was Norman infantry
Sigh would have loved to do that one, I have done Pennsic war here in the US for the last 30 plus years. Used to do the heavy infantry thing and still have my armor, shields, ect. Just gained the weight of my armor in personal belt armor these days...sigh. Still do merchanting as a chain/leather worker making and selling the stuff.

Pic is about 10 years old but you get the idea
And I thought doing ACW was cool. Karl I love that photo. So great to see younger people getting into doing and learning history.
Started on my Spitfire project and hope to have it done this week.
Just got the 3rd tree lit and decorated, our hero tops this one!

And of course a fly by the Holy Nativity

Cheers to all and to all a good flight!
Rats! Need Rob to turn my pics!
Hey Dave, how do you trim those lozenge decals? Before, after, during installation?
Joe, never been to Florida. Did the Michigan Ren fair about 30 years ago though. Mostly do local events (Michigan, Northern Ohio, and rarely Northern Indiana) And then camp Pennsic for 2 weeks to relax every year. Getting harder every year to do the Pennsic thing though.
OK - Job done. All is sanded and there are no more sharp edges or splinters waiting to ambush the kids and Santa is relieved  Mikee approves too it seems :)

Enjoyed the project, but the workbench now has Shapeways aircraft back on it for a short time.
Wonderfully inspirational! Thanks for the pics and details . . .
OK so where is the moat ? Great job. :sAprvd:
Excellent castle
It's not that kind of castle, Bob ;)

Karl
Very nice castle, well done
Just wait until the boys get hold of it. They might just add a moat themselves - in the living room. Daughter's problem then :) :) :)Quote:
OK so where is the moat ?
:eek:Beter remind them that a lot of castles had a dry moat;)
Rob.
Aah yes, perhaps that's an idea my daughter would prefer :)
Great looking castle! I'm sure the kids will love it!
Gotta keep the elves busy, tonight's fun. From 1914 to 1929, just a few years between the Fokker E-III and the Dornier DO-X both here in 1/144" scale. Revell kit off the pile in the shop . . .
Before the decals . . .
