Looking very smart Bob.
Rob.
Just finished the last of these up last night. These four Capronis represent the 1st Bombardment Squadron, of which Taramelli's Caproni is the official WoG version (top plane in the first pic). I managed to acquire a die-cast version with the dappled top wing after I bought my first Taramelli (left plane in the middle row), and then I needed two more to complete the unit. The other two are the Ares plane with a bit of repainting - I wanted each one to be a bit distinctive without going overboard, so I repainted the upper surfaces of one of them to sort of match the dappling on the die-cast version (right plane in the middle row), and on the last Ares plane, I 'repeated' the green camo from the top wing on the bottom wing (bottom plane). This way, they should be easy to differentiate on the game table when they go after the Austro-Hungarian fleet anchored in Pola Harbor (my dream scenario for these beasties - I hope to run it at Origins, eventually...)

Nicely done, eyecatching mediterranean bomber fleet, Matt.
Those bombers look nice!
Very nicely done, Matt. To my eye, you achieved your goal... not only do they look nice, they look like elements of the same unit.
Very nice, Matt. I'll enjoy shooting at them in June ;)
Karl
Great work as always Matt.
Very nice Matt.
Great looking birds Matt.
Incidentally that Flight of yours equals all my total Capronis in the various colour schemes, and I thought I was over Capronied!
Rob.
If it is any consolation, Rob, these four are the extent of my Capronitude...:p
Unlike a couple of my buddies, I haven't felt a need to get one of everything Nexus and Ares has released, but I will plead guilty of picking up more than one of several of their models...;)
Glad you like 'em!
Always the best,
Matt
I require that my Capronis keep moving so I can't count them... if I can't count them, they don't exist.

Was there a crew for this plane? Or was it just a random camouflage scheme?
That looks really nice! :sAprvd: As I recall, Mike, the packaging on the dappled die-cast one I bought indicated it was Taramelli's plane, so probably the best thing to label a potential card would be 'unknown crew'...
I do have the Windsock magazines on the Caproni, from which I got some info on the 1st Bomb Squadron - I will dig those out and see if any other pilots of squadron planes are named.
All the best,
Matt
Nice paint work!

Also in the paint booth. I am not a fan of the winter camo version. And so....

Finished up a commission today clearing my Que for the first time since August. Not historical but the next item I started painting today is a Bolt Action Soviet army for E-bay fodder. With luck will have pics of it up in a week or two. On that note here is a pic of the finished Descent figs.Attachment 239150 And yes, the bases are not painted, he removes the bases and glues em to clear plastic discs.
....by both the talent And the productivity of the forum members. I salute you all:
:salute::salute::salute::salute::pint:
I see you have the other version of the Caproni in your Entente Bombers file, too, Mike! What service:sAprvd::sAprvd::sAprvd:
Your skills always amaze!
All the best,
Matt
The B-25J is nearly complete. Still some minor thing to do.
Attachment 239151
Love the B-25! Great work on all the painting and Mike, the cards are awesome, as usual! Getting up enough finger strength to tackle some serious painting this weekend, the elves have gathered the paints, color pics, and primed the models, all 18 of them, yikes, they even have the insignia printed off. They seem to mean business. Something about a 3 day weekend as well . . . Brushes away!
Kept the elves busy most of the day . .

These got set aside, no respect for the Great War once the greater one came along . . .

If you ever feel like you've got too many Capronis, you can paint up some of them as French. The French were lacking a decent native heavy bomber and built Capronis under license, supplemented with direct purchases when output fell sort of projections. First combat flights were in spring of 1916, and their use continued through the end of the war.
It wasn't until August 1918 that the French fielded a native heavy bomber design in the Farman F.50.
Good to see the fingers cooperating, David! Don't let those enthusiastic elves talk you into overdoing it...;)
Daryl, I know there is the one green version of the Caproni that was done in French markings, and a French squadron would be tempting...I will have to consider taking a plunge in that direction. :p
All the best,
Matt
Nice work and interesting historical photos as usual, good to see you at work! Who's DVII? . . . and what is in the hanger in the background?????
The D.VII is Jacobs' mount, just before Jasta 7 repainted their top wings black. The D.VIIs that were delivered had Fokker streaky olive fuselages, and 4 colour lozenged wings. The fuselages were immediately repainted black, but the wings remained lozenged on top for a while, and the bottom wings may never have been repainted.
At a flying guess, the aircraft in the hanger looks like a Pfalz D.III.
These models are for someone else - I think I'll stick with black top wings and lozenged lower ones for my own, but he requested lozenges. Figuring out just what colour Voss's machine was was tricky. Basically aquamarine all over, then olive applied with longhandled brooms in streaks. Cowling green, with the characteristic face on.
McCudden described it as silvery blue, and the gloss varnish accounts for the silvery bit, and other accounts state that the olive covering was thinner to nonexistent near the back of the fuselage. McCudden also describes Voss as not wearing any headgear, so I painted him bareheaded with a Prussian crewcuts, as seen in his photos.
Attachment 239426
Like everything else in history, informed guesswork.
Super paint jobs as usual Zoe, and a very good eye for detail especially Voss's crew cut.;)
Rob.
Good to see some modelling 'thunder from Down Under', Zoe! Lovely work, as always.
I have a couple of extra Sachsenberg DVIIs that probably need to be turned into Jacobs and one of his wingmates' planes...thanks for the info on lozenges on the wing-bottoms:sAprvd:
All the best,
Matt
I so want to do a 'plane' card for this model! Really!
I can't find any top-down images to use as a template for a Griffin. :(
I'm thinking that an Elf mage would have 'magic missles' or 'fire balls' for ranged shots. Perhaps only close range, and only once per turn? Just going off on a bad tangent, like some others that did dragons and other fantasy/sci-fi 'what-if's.
A little HE-111 progress:

Decals by miscmini.
Which, btw, rate an unsolicited testimonial. Second time using these decals. Images are clear and sharp; colors are bright even over dark surfaces; film is thin but strong and flexible, and stand up to my incessant fiddling and positioning without wrinkle or tear; settle down into details when using a decal setting solution. Top notch.
Looking very nice there, Bob! I look forward to seeing it all finished - you do such lovely work:sAprvd:
All the best,
Matt
More great work by the people in here. I just have to take pics of the ones I just finished. Just received 9 planes from Dave (AIM). 3 of one plane I don't have, 3 for a new force I am building and 3 to add to one I already have. And then there will be Mosquitos soon.
Weekend aftermath. The elves were kept busy indeed, here's the lot:

Outstanding work as always. Thanks for telling how you did the swizzle. It looks fantastic.
Truly lovely work here, David - the elves are to be commended for keeping you in check and giving your hands some fine motor skills therapy! Like Bob, I particularly like the effect you've achieved with the 'swizzle' camo - those pens did yeoman's work:sAprvd:
Keep up the inspirational work - and Karl, you need a couple of Do 335s...;)
