Metallic Hydrogen and Space Travel

I remember reading about the theoretical work on this decades ago. Good for near-earth space travel; I wonder if the destabilizing process would be safe enough for powering ground and air vehicles.

Almost certainly (tanstaafl after all), but the tradeoff for it's high energy release is worth it. And you can make it with solar energy.
