Lovely new avatar Andrea! When this is released I may have to convert to being a 'toaster'. ;)
After playing at Praque I knew I had some old models stashed away

Will the scale matter Andy? They can be far away if to small or dead close if larger :)
very true once built can look at them against the card prototype's I was given by Andrea
I've got the Cylon Base Star, but never did find a Battlestar kit.
I built the two halves separately, and used each as a space station for "Full Thrust"
Also have the Cylon Raider - it's about 12 inches across (bit too big for this game!)
Questions to the Prague testplayers:
Are there a kind of "altitude rules" to bring some 3D feeling on the table?
Heared about collision with an ateroid.
Are there ship to ship collissions possible, or can the fighters overlap like in the WoG system?
Hi Sven
Yes, there are altitude rules (but we did not use them in the Prague game)
Yes, there was a collision with an asteroid (:lol::lol:) <<sorry Steve!>> but since an asteroid can be a couple of miles in diameter, this is pretty realistic!
Ships can overlap just like in 'Wings of War/Glory'.
Altitude in space combat is hard to imagine and portrait.
Once I used to play a great PC game "Tie Fighter" where I could stop the action and get a quasi 3D map/location of all the starhsips. Believe me, I felt like drunk walking upside down trying to figure out where I actually am!
There is no point of reference from which one could measure "altitude", IMHO.
Yes Reg, but who says that the battle took place only on one imagined level/plain?
Up and down depend on the ship, you‘re flying and the horizont it uses to dermine it‘s position in relation to the flight direction and positions/movements of other objects to itself.
If I say altitude, I used this word to simplify the question and want to know if enemies can approach or fly away in more directions, than being glued to one level/plain like X-Wing. ;)
Talking about conditions an parameters in space battles in English is no easy.
If you imagine a little bit 3D to the game - overlapping should not prevent shooting in general, but the heading of the ship should.
So if a Cylon overlaps with your Viper, presenting you his rear side and your guns point at him, you should be able to blow him out of space.:)
At all I‘m happy about your answers.
Sold my X-Wing stuff long time ago, but hated those „collision - then loose your action stuff“.
Perfect.

I‘m in love...
Will there be Original Ares Games playmats?
That's a good question. I hope so.
With the blond instead of a starscape I hope!
At least if I hit it as I did the asteroid in Prague, I would bounce off of it..........
I'm with you on this. I grew up with the original series with Lorne Greene et.al and the original BSG, Viper and Cylon raiders. I the only problems I had with the reboot was making Starbuck "Female" Sorry, but Starbuck was a "woman chaser". Having a female as a cigar chomping hard case just didn't do it for me.
I did like the new vipers and the new support ships and making their pilots more than just a backdrop. Having one or two of them as forefront characters rather than NPC's if you will was great. I did kinda like the new cylon raiders, but... And the new Cylons were cool.
If I remember the t.v. series correctly, deliberate ramming was definitely a Cylon tactic.
GOG (Grand Ole Games) is usually a good place to go for that: Wing Commander™ 1+2. But I don't know where he goes.
GOG has a lot of the old games they modify to run on current machines. I have the X-Wing and TIE Fighter series. ;)
P.S. Kind of like Steam Powered but has, mostly, older games.
I use GOG a lot also.
Here's a Q&A from one of their forums.
Q. I'm just wondering this. Are all games on this site modified to work on new systems? Do they change the games ui or anything? Is it original?
A. Depend's game you are talking about. DOS era games are ran either using DOSBox or ScummVM. For old Windows (Windows 95 onwards) games, GOG removes DRM (major cause of incompatibility) if it still exists and finds compatibility settings that are most apropriate for game. They may also use various programs and libraries to make it work (nGlide, modified ddraw.dll etc.) and may modify (hack basically) the executable somewhat to implement fixes as need be. GOG has no access to source code so their ability to modify them is limited (usually implementing their own versions of fan made fixes). In couple rare cases GOG has also resorted to using unofficial patches, but that's pretty much last resort.
GOG also builds and maintains it's own installers so those old installers aren't problem either.
Do note that some cases GOG has worked directly with developers and in some cases developers have made upgrades to games themselves. In such cases modifications are more extensive thanks to access to source code and can range from improving compatibility, higher resolution support and improved UI's to complete overhauls.
You mean that it looks like this game?

Sorry that's not X-Wing, these images have ben shot and published years before X-Wing's release. ;)

Anyway, just look at Battlestar Galactica's miniature base allowing you top go in a direction while you rotate and shoot in another.
This is a space combat game, not a clone of "Wings of War in space". ;) ;) ;)
Well Andrea now I am quite upset ;) . I was firmly committed to sparing my wallet any more extravagances. But if this has the mechanics as you're describing I'll definitely have to keep an eye out. I really don't need another collectible game but this sounds unique enough that it may be worth looking at.
Argh... the harder I try to stay away, the more they pull me in. Is it time to surrender :surrender: to the seduction of this hobby?
Just stick to the Starter Upset... eeeer, I meant “set”.
Here a page on Ares' site with a few pics of how the game will be:

Hoping down the road they go for the Original BSG ships. Liked the reboot but have fond memories of the original series. Be interesting to see how a 3 crewman Cylon raider wold work. Heck still have a copy of the FASA board game sitting here.
WANT!!!!!!
