Campaign Thoughts I - The Wright Flight have been talking for some time about doing a campaign, allowing players to develop a pilot persona that would carry over from gaming session to gaming session. One of the members suggested using the American 94th Aero and picking a German Jasta as their counterparts. If we do a campaign based on the 94th Aero, some factors to be considered before even delving into how would we track kills, earn Ace skills, set up scenarios (those I will leave to a future post). From the historical perspective, items for consideration:
1. As the 94th moved a few times from sector to sector, we could not pick one German squadron, let alone one German JG, to use for a consistent German presence.
2. The 94th's first operational flight was on April 12th, using of course N.28s, and the squadron had six planes that were operational at the time.
3. Most of these would have been equipped with only one machinegun.
4. The sector the 94th was first deployed in faced Germans equipped with Albatros D.Va and Pfalz D.IIIa planes, such as Jasta 64w.

5. The 94th moved to the Chateau Theirry Sector at the end of June and started facing Fokker D.VIIs.
6. On July 7th the first SPAD XIII was received (Rickenbacker's). On July 14th a dozen more, and more arrived over the next several days thereafter. However, they used their N.28s into August as there were many mechanical issues with the SPADs,
7. On August 30th the 94th moved to Rembercourt as part of the St. Michel Offensive. There was a decent amount of focus on balloon busting.
Based on the above, initial games would be with B armed N.28s facing the D.IIIa and D.Va. Then the N.28s would upgrade to A armed. When the 94th moves in June the opposition is tougher and better equipped. The N.28s soldier on into early August, but players would have a chance to obtain a SPAD in July.
