I hosted some of my fellow gameclub mates at my place yesterday for two games of Wings of War/Glory. We picked a scenario from Flight of the Giants to start..."Looking Down". I was able to secure the escort fighter, a trusty Sopwith Camel, while Scott S. took the Freidrichshafen G.III (we used the Gotha model to represent, and the G.III cards for stats. G Dog had the Fokker Dr.I and forum member adler64 flew the robust Albatros D.Va. Scott deployed to the right, and I took the left. Adler and I did a head on pass, both of us taking rudder jams, but other my damage was fairly minimal, while I put five points on him. However, details become fuzzy after this point as I took an explosion card from G Dog the very next turn and my kite was destroyed (time to make some more pilots). Scott however was able to push his bird into enemy territory, spewing machinegun fire at G Dog and then adler as they tried to close for the kill. G Dog would be in front of the bommber one phase, take fire, then pass behind the bomber, taking more damage. After several turns of this occurring, adler had an uncontrollable fire occur, the damage from which made him fall from the sky on his next turn. G Dog's little Fokker hung in there until it took more damage from the G.III. Scott did a great job spewing bullets in all directions, and then picking up the occasional point for completing turns over German territory. The Belgian's lost one plane, the Germans two.

The second scenario involved an observation balloon and was the "A Pair of Sentinels" clash from the Balloon Busters set. Scott took the rocket-armed Nieuport 16 and I had the SPAD XIII, while the Germans had the same planes as in the previous scenario. Scott moved head on at the gasbag, while I took a fast sweeping right turn at the monster. The rockets, lined up and launched perfectly, inflicted a total of ZERO points! I was able to do repeat Immelmans, strafing the balloon over and over again, before the Germans were able to engage their aircraft starting on Turn 3. At that point I completed another strafing run, then had to break off to counter the D.Va and then the Fokker. The Dr.1 was able to get onto my tail, causing zero damage points, and I hoped that my sturdy SPAD would be able to handle a bit of damage as I planned to Immelman to get another crack at the balloon as Scott had been able to do some strafing on it as well. It had taken a lot of damage cards, so we knew we had to be closing in. However, before I could pull off my maneuver, I took some major damage from G Dog's guns (including a five point card and fire damage). At the beginning of my next turn I pulled another five point damage card from fire damage...that caused my SPAD to tumble from the sky. Scott was able to cause damage to adler, who also was burned up by fire damage, and tried in vain to line up the balloon one final time, but overlapped its base and was unable to fire. Moving away from the balloon, Scott took final damage from G Dog and that was that. We had pounded the balloon with a lot of machinegun fire, but could not drop it before losing our planes.

We are slowly getting into the rules. We are using all the damage rules, but have yet to venture into tailing, consecutive firing at the same target, or altitude. I think we will probably add some of these next session. We also are talking about a campaign in the future.

All in all, a great session where a good time was had by all! Some pictures HERE.
