Eric, the transmitter masts have to take a straight hit, otherwise the power of the explosion goes through them. The control room was also very well protected. The receiver towers were made of wood, so those were the most vulnerable. So count just full hits. I say all this to explain that i would put a high value on it, like 15, or a direct hit by say 1-2 Stukas, or say two full hits by alt. 2 level bombing by He 111. The trick was, that they had to approach at low level, because the obsolete (and soon improved) system was blind at low altitudes. I've seen in a document, that Luftwaffe were trying to take it down, but managed to do it just partly. The following day, the English expected them to come back and finish it off (German way - to do a good job), but they have never returned. |
