Paperback Summary:
Arms and Armour Press Vintage Warbirds No.4 is a 64pp study of the Bristol F2a/F2b, illustrated with 131 B&W photos of the aircraft flown during WWI and into the inter-war period. Generally, each photo has a quite detailed description of the aircraft type, the individual aircraft in the picture and comments on markings, capability and/or action in which it was involved. While many of the photos and their subjects are commonly reproduced in other publications, there are also some rare or unusual examples showing the numerous different engines (Falcon, Puma, Arab, HS, etc) installed, which led to various changes to the forward fuselage shape. There are also amazingly liveried training aircraft such as B1288 'The Crocodile', and aircraft in German, Belgian and Irish service both during and post-war. Published in the 1980s, the Vintage Warbirds series still turns up at book exchanges for not a lot more than the original cover price of £4.95, which makes it quite a bargain for what you get.
