"This... is Berk..."
So this is all theory, but as I lack the game, I have nothing to do to entertain my off time other then read the rule book and think about how everything all works... and then read the rule book again so my mind ended up wandering and I'm curious as to if anyone else has ever done anything odd using the WoG/WoW rules. But first, an explanation,
My wife and I are huge fans of the movie "How To Train Your Dragon", when it came out, we were like children with a new Disney movie. We collected all the toys, plushies, artwork etc, we could find for it. The obsession has died down a bit, but we still have little bits here and there (A Toothless toy is currently acting as a stand for our Wii sensor bar on our tv) so yeah, pretty big HttyD fans.
Well she's not into aviation much and she likes the look of planes, but not enough to really distinguish one from another or have the urge to learn about them, so she has no real desire to want to try this game. We got talking about air combat as a whole and I got the idea to see if it would work to adapt the rules from WoG to something that would do Dragons justice... And I don't think it'd be that hard. A few of the combat special damages would need to be omitted, and it may take some different terms to flavor out the game (instead of rudder damage, it'd be tail damage, or instead of smoke, it might work to make it noise and omit the fire part) Also, conviently enough we have a few 'Buckets O' Dragons" lying around (a tub of cheap plastic dragon miniatures) so the models thing is solved.
other then the obvious, figuring out what dragons got what flight deck, Am I wrong to assume it would be an alright conversion?
And if I get ambitous enough, maybe even use the rules for a zepplin as the giant dragon at the end of the movie? Hrmm...
Also, if anyone has played the video game 'Hoard', a 10 dollar, download ps3/psp game, I think it'd be fun to try to adapt that kinda game as well.
The basic game premise is, you're a dragon. You level up, eat people, raid towns, fight other dragons and amass a large hoard of gold and other such valuables. Its down as a top down 'board game' in real time. Each map has a basic set up of the dragons lair, where you take the gold, a few farms, various roads and towns. Bigger ones have mage towers and castles. Over time they all build up, till you burn it and it drops a set amount of gold. Fly over it and pick it up, fly back to base. Thats about it, very quick, easy.
This would take a lot more of a homebrew set up, but each map has a fixed set of roads caravans travel on each turn in a fixed path, use the photo recon rules to pick up fallen gold (at a specific or lower altitude of course) Knights would have to go towards the closest dragon, etc. It'd take more work, but I still think its possible.
Either of these idea's sound like they have any merit? And like I said earlier, has anyone ever used the rules for anything quirky?
