View Full Version : WSF A 1 1/2 Strutter
Finally got the pilot & gunner done to finish this one off - Kampffliegers Strutter - based on a pic from Windsock profile 121 - a 43 Sqn kite from C Flight. I chose C2 for no other reason than that was the Police Sub division I started work at:
36167
Usual prep of some coats of Klear & Humbrol 33 acrylic white as the undercoat in an attempt to lessen the roughness of the model,
36168
A top coat or two of Humbrol 155 Olive Drab enamel, 56 Aluminium acrylic for the cowling, GW Bleached Bone for the underside & Snakebite Leather for the woodwork
36169
Finished off with Doms Decals & a Peter Pig pilot & gunner - pilot was particularly fiddly to get in too; bit like trying to pour Kytey into the cockpit for dawn patrol !
More pics in my album (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/album.php?albumid=1201) should you wish to peruse.
Nice work; love seeing more Sops on the game mat (even if I just use them as targets :p )

flash,
A really nice Strutter, particularly with it 'crewed up'. It's funny but over here http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?9157-Hansa-Brandenburg-W.29 the heads of the PP crew look disproportionately large; I wonder if its a variation in castings, some perceptional weirdness of putting them in a monoplane, or an underscale W.29?

I think theyre Rivresco crew in the W29
Nice work. It has now motivated me to have a go and build one.

D'Oh! I should have read the 2nd post more closely.
At least now I know what a comparison between the two brands looks like.
I dont have any Rivresco to compare, but I understand that they include some full gunner figs, unlike PPig which are just torso up. The PPig Lewis comes on a scarff ring mount which looks great on some models such as the RE8, but can be a b*tch to cut down at times. Luckily you get a lot in a bag :-)

:hmm: Yeah the Reveresco pilots are definately much larger than the P.P. figures.:)

:D I have a Strutter 2 seater waiting for me with Zoe until the Nieuport order come through.
I plan to do it in the CDL finish like my BE2c's for more "Bloody April" scenarios.
Great work Flash on your one!
Cheers Barry - look forward to seeing yours mate.
Never handled the Rivresco figs so unable to comment but thought they do look big in some aircraft, however, a full figure would be useful in some models so may try some one day. Think it really finishes the model off if you can get it crewed. I have also bought PP German gunners too (well, you never know what fathers day will bring !).

I like the look of the PP gunners and pilots. For the price, it is worth getting both sides gunners and a bag of pilots, they are great value.
Love the work there Flash! Thanks for sharing what colours you used :)

 They fit Kampffligers Fok E.III perfectly as it has a deep & ong cockpit but for the FE2c's & the FE2b you can only fit the PP torso ones.;)

Very nice! The front shot is the best IMHO...
Nice work Flash. Here's a comparison for you between the gunners, PP on the left, Reverisco on the right. The Reverisco German gunners are a bit bigger and the pilots are really useful for Giants when you can see their legs.

Thanks Ian - that's really helped me make my mind up (hate buying blind) - I will have to invest in some when I get some bigger stuff in - can't do it too soon as shelled out a lot on aircraft, decals & cards recently.
Nice work on the Strutter, Dave.
