Jagdstaffel 5 Volume 1 Author:
G K Merrill ISBN:
1-902207-67 X Category:
Reference Format:
Paperback Summary:
Part 1 of 2 Volume set tracing the History from formation to the end of the War.
Vol 1 has 56 pages not including the covers and is one of Albatross Publications "Windsock" datafiles/specials.
This volume is not cheap, but reading through the magazine/booklet, to me is worth the investment.
Volume 1 traces the forming of Jasta 5 including tables showing line drawings of the initial complement of aircraft, FokkerE Ii, III &IV & Halberstadts as wel as a couple of Roland DII (hmmm Rolands ) up to the adoption of the Green tail Jasta marking in July 1917
The Text lists a history of the pilots and the actions they took part in, including fatalities and their kills.
There are organisation tables for the initial era, the Battle of the Somme and the initial Albatross DII which replaced the Halberstadts.
The Booklet is crammed with black & white photos of Jasta personnel, aircraft, aerodrome, all which have detailed explanations.
There are also 34 ( including the covers) coloured pictures of Albatross scouts all with a write up describing the colours of that aircraft.
A good read, lots of old photos and lots of re-paint ideas

I have to agree, while a bit pricey, well worth the cost! These volumes are perhaps my 2nd favorite Windsock books. They contain a ton more information then the standard Datafile books (which page per dollar are much more expensive).
