Blackronin

The British were making a lot of patrols over our side recently. They were up to something. We were ordered to counter this and take them down as much as we could. As Leutnant Hans Zakopious was still injured and Leutnant Willarm was with a serious flu, I took off with Leutnant Andrzej Kaut for an extended patrol. Overall conditions were fine and our Albatrosses sang a song of strength and joy two miles above the trenches. I was happy. Next week I was hoping that I could journey again with Willarm on leave and meet beautiful Ina at Willarm's home.

Then, as if appearing from nothing we saw them below us. Two Camels escorting an observation plane. An RE8. I banked left and Andrzej took them in a frontal pass.

It was an awfully unlucky pass. Both my guns and Andrzej's guns jammed. And Andrzej took a terrible amount of damage. I could see his plane raked by bullets and I signed him with my right hand to withdraw but he gave me the sign that he would press on.

I had the observation plane under my sight but my weapons were jammed as I saw the gunner fire again against Andrzej. He took even more damage.

As we moved away to unjam our weapons, the Brits moved forward to their target. We weren't able to stop them.

As soon as my weapons were operational, I banked sharply, but the Brits were far away by then.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42694&d=1335359339
I could see Andrzej being more cautious now, since his Albatros was very damaged. But he followed me to take on the Camels.

By then, the Observation plane made its pass over the objective. A train station occupied by our troops. I decided that I would stop it before it returned to the Brits lines.

As I tried to take the Observation plane, Andrzej - with an unbelievable courage - made another pass against the Camels and was able to take them from their side as they tried to reach the RE8. He damaged slightly one of them and jammed his weapons once again! Lady luck didn't slept in our bed this last night...
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42697&d=1335359365
I fired skilfully against the RE8 and damaged it a little and then - jammed again! - and he fired back at me hitting my engine. The Albatros shouted in pain and anger as I banked once again away from the enemy plane.

Andrzej - after unjamming his weapons the second time pointed his plane against the Brits, that by that time had rejoined formation again. He fired a long stray of bullets against them and one of the Camels fired back injuring him in his right shoulder. By then he started moving away from the dogfight. Such lack of luck must always be respected.

As Andrzej was pulling away, one of the Camels moved away from their flight to take Andrzej down. I called for every horse power of my injured engine to put myself between them.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42703&d=1335359403
We fired at each other and I saw that I made a lot of damage, wounding my enemy. He fired back at me without hitting my plane.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42704&d=1335359414
I paused to see them all moving away. Andrzej to our lines and the enemy flight, with photos taken, to their lines.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42705&d=1335359420
I decided that I couldn't possibly get them, so I tried to fire a last parting shot against the wounded Camel. But my wounded engine couldn't keep up with the Camel's speed.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=42706&d=1335359427
I returned home, with a mixed feeling of defeat and a relieved emotion by coming back alive. Still, my flight is down to one man. Two wounded pilots and one with a violent flu. On the bright side that would be a good reason to take a leave and visit Ina. What will the Hauptmann say about that?
After Action Report
I played my ninth solo scenario with my pilot - Rittmeister Joachim.
I wanted to use my recent present again - the Albatros Andrzej offered me - and the expanded solo rules, so I crafted another scenario.
All planes except mine were using the Richard Bradley Solo rules with my home-made table and the AI rules below. I was very unlucky with the jamming rules in this scenario and I forgot to use my Ace rule when I took the engine damage.
Die Roll: --------- 1 --------------------------- 6 --------
1/12 Stall/Straight/Stall --------- Straight/Straight/Loop
2/3 Hard Turn R./Stall/Hard Turn R. -- Straight/Straight/Loop
5/4 Straight/Loop/Straight -------- Straight/Loop/Straight
6/7 ---------------------- No changes ----------------------
8/9 Straight/Loop/Straight -------- Straight/Loop/Straight
10/11 Hard Turn L./Stall/Hard Turn L. -- Straight/Straight/Loop
I played with two aces rules:
Deadly Aim. One of the cards of damage I deal gives +1 damage if it's not a zero.
Gritty Luck. I can negate one card of damage per scenario.
Expanded solo rules to Special Damage and Artificial Intelligence:
AI DAMAGE RULES
Rudder Jammed: In Solo games, when the A.I. receives this damage, be it right or left, these are the rules: In the following turn, after the living players play their cards, roll a 1D6 die: 1-3 - cannot turn left, 4-6 - Cannot turn right.
Pilot Wounded: If an AI pilot is wounded, he cannot make any more Himmelmanns. The second wound kills him.
Engine Damage: Roll a die to find in which manouver the stall should be performed. 1-2 = first, 34 = second, 5-6 = third.
Smoke - Per the rules.
Fire - Per the rules.
AI BEHAVIOUR
Wounded pilots: After being wounded, AI pilots roll 1D6 die after players play their turn. On a 4-6 they start to move away from the combat to their lines.
Plane on Fire: When the plane is on fire and the plane has more than half of total damage, AI pilots roll 1D6 die after players play their turn. On a 4-6 they start to move away from the combat to their lines.
Characters in the Campaign:
Rittmeister Joachim - 8 kills and 1 shared kill (trying to obtain a leave) (Ace abilities: Deadly Aim, Gritty Luck)
Leutnant Willarm - 2 Kills (In bed with a flu)
Leutnant Hans Zakopious - No kills (Wounded)
Leutnant Andrzej Kaut - 1 shared kill (Wounded)
Hauptmann Schroeder (Jasta 23 Operational Officer)
Ina (Lovely Willarm's sister)
