I would like to take the time to welcome all the pilots to the Wings of War Aerodrome. It is my hope that this site will turn into your first sources when looking for the latest news, custom cards, scenarios and campaign rules for Wings of War.

I have broken the site down into sections for both WWI and WWII. I know there are many of you out there that play both versions of the game, but this separation will help keep things organized and make things easier to find. And to make things easier for you to keep track of, please have a quick read of this thread (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10) as it will point out some features that that could make life here for you simpler.

Below is a list of areas on the site you might find very useful.

Files

Each of you will find that you are able to upload files to the site to share with others. Files can be uploaded via the Files link in the top navigation bar. The file size limit is 2MB per file, but you can upload as many files as you like. I have placed some categories there that I think most files should fall in to. If you find you need a new category added, please just let me know via Private Message (click on my user name). You have the option of uploading an image to be used as a thumbnail for you file. You will have to an image editor to create the file and then you can upload it into one of your albums. From there you can look at the properties of the image and get the url to the image for use in the file upload section. It sounds much harder then what it really is, trust me! If you need a good, free online image editor, try Pixlr (http://www.pixlr.com/editor/). If you upload any files, a link will show up in your user area of each of your posts. This makes it very easy for others to find all of your files.

Valid file extensions are:

zip
rar
tar
gz
ppt
xls
doc
jpeg
jpg
gif
pdf

If you need another extension added, please let me know.

Photos

Each of you can create your own photo albums and upload images to them. Images are limited to 2MB each, but you can have up to 100 in each album and as many albums as you like! Photos are limited to 800x800 pixels, but should automatically re-size if they are larger then that. Your albums can be set to Public, Private or Profile. When you add images to an album, an icon will show up in your user area of each of your posts. This makes it very easy for others to find photos that you have uploaded.

Your Profile

Your Profile is where others can find out more about you, see what photos you have in your albums and what files you have uploaded or downloaded. They can also request to be come your friend, leave you comments, and see what Social Groups you belong to. You can also customize your profile to become your very own space! Oh, don't for get to upload a Profile Picture of your self so other know what you look like!

Medals

Right now, Medals are going to be used for the world wide campaign of Knights of the Air that I will be running when the web site of things are ready (yep, I did say world wide campaign!). I also plan to use Medals to give out as rewards for members that really support the community by helping others find needed information (try the great search feature first!), sharing their custom made cards, scenarios and other files. These medals will show up under your user name in posts for all to see!

Groups

The Groups section will allow you to join or create a public group. I've started a few already to get you connected to others that probably like the same aspects of this wonderful game as your self. You will find each group has its own discussion area and photo albums. The easiest way to get to the Groups section is the navigation bar up top, so go have a look and join a group today!

That covers the major sections of the site and should get you fixed up with others on this site pretty quickly. If you are new to the whole forums concept, just take a quick look through the FAQ at the top of every page. you will find all kinds of helpful information in there.

Thanks for taking the time to join this community and to read this long post! If there is any thing I can do to make this place more user friendly, please let me know!

Fly Safe,

Keith

I know many of you like Yahoo Groups and I've put together this thread just for you. While this site will never run exactly like YG, I hope that doing these simple things will get it close enough to your liking.

Images

If you find the images people use for their Avatars or signatures to be a h***le, or even the images they may post in a thread, there is a simple way to turn them all off. Simply go to:

User CP> Edit Options> Thread Display Options

There you will see some check boxes that will allow you to turn off any or all images posted by other users. Don't worry if you decide that you want to see images posted in a thread if you have them setup to not show. You can simply click on the link to the image.

Subscriptions

You can setup in your Options how you want to subscribe to threads that you have posted in. You can get an instant email, or a daily or weekly digest. When you make a post, you can also select how you want to be notified of a post. What if you only want to watch a thread and don't have any thing to contribute at the moment? Well, you can use the Thread Tools menu at the top of the tread to subscribe to it as well with out ever making a post.

For those of you that like to see and read just about every thing that is posted, you can use the Forum Tools menu at the top of any forum to subscribe to that forum. Again, you can get instant updates, or daily or even weekly digests.

With all these options you never miss a thing and only receive what you want to get!

When you subscribe to a Category, you will receive an email that looks like the following....

The web address are actual links you can follow. You would get one of these emails for each Category you sign up for. If there is enough interest, I could create a single Category that would give you updates on the entire site.

How to add a table to your post.

Click on the http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/images/editor/table.gif button in the text editor. This will place the "{table}" and "{/table}" code into your post. Add ="head" to the first table bracket. Then just replace the "Column 1 Title" with the Title for your column and the "Row 1 Column 1 Data" entries with your tables data. You can add or remove rows and columns by adding more numbers or deleting them. Columns need the | between them.

Column 1 Title|Column 2 Title|Column 3 Title
Row 1 Column 1 Data| Row 1 Column 2 Data| Row 1 Column 3 Data
Row 2 Column 1 Data| Row 2 Column 2 Data| Row 2 Column 3 Data

Adding images to your post

Here at the Aerodrome, there is no need for you to find some place to host your images before sharing them in your thread with us. Simply use the attachment function (found towards the bottom of the text editor)

When you attach an image, it will show up and function just like the one I placed in this post.

Locate Players

In an attempt to make it easier for our members to find other players in their area, I have added a Locate Players link in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

Following this link will open up a list of countries where we currently have members signed up from. Clicking on one of the countries will open up that Country's group page.

The group page will allow you to do several things. First, if you look all the way to the right, you will see all the members that are part of this group. It shows their username and avatar (ignore the zMaint guy... it's the account I used to create the groups). Next, look towards the bottom center of the page and you will see where it will let you join this group. By joining the group, your name and avatar appear to the right. Finally, after joining the group, you can start discussion in that group just like you would in a regular forum. You can find the link for this in the bottom left.

Discussion could be on any thing related to your group, like announcing or setting up a game in your area.

How to join the Player Locator Video (http://www.wingsofwar.org/UserImages/Vids/JoinGroup.swf).

YOU MUST BE REGISTERED AND SIGNED IN TO USE THE LOCATE PLAYERS FUNCTION

Welcome from Vancouver, Canada. I have been invited by a small local group to play. Hope to see how the game plays, and to have some up there in the blue yonder! Looks like a fun game ;-)

I am having trouble uploading pictures to my photo album.
I get this message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I noticed that there is a limitation of 2 meg per picture? Well, Houston, we have a problem. Since the majority of my pics are taken with a 12 MP digital camera and the average image size is 4.5 Meg file size. I will not be able to upload any pics to this site.
This limitation in effect only allows for 5 mp camera pics to be uploaded.
Unless someone knows how to convert a 4.5 meg picture to only 2 meg.

All sites have limits on file sizes, we are no exception. You will need to re-size the images for posting. There are all kinds of free image editing programs out there and MS Paint will do it as well.

When you pull up your pics click on edit and go down to size and make them 800 by, it should automatically make the other size as to be proportionate, 600. They will down load just fine at that size.

I got contacted by another player from Denmark, but I can't find players by nationality.
Is this possible?
There is no flight anywhere in Denmark, so there is no place to find other players (probably because there is only a few of us spread around the country).

Bon soir Paul!

I am collecting planes of both periods. I just love planes... (My wallet hates me... Don`t mention the kickstarter...)
Started collecting during the Wings of War times and still going strong. Just a lack of players here. But got some vict... *ahem* friends I try to get into playing... ;)
How about you? Due to your avatar, I assume WWI?

Hi Henrik WWI is my first love but over the years WWII has sucked me in. Have a look at our OTT scenarios (WWI) and the Fire in the skies forums for some ideas and scenarios you might want to drop in to. Take a look at the dicless solo chart Blackronin and Oldguy59 have produced for us solo guys or if you have Skype we do hve a Skype forum which is international and open to all. PM me if you want more details.
Bon courage mon comarade : salute:

Welcome to the Aerodrome Soenke. Glueckstadt sounded familiar. I had one of my pilots in the OTT Solo Campaign come from Glueckstadt!

Watch your back and in the US, we say "break a leg" for good luck.
