Returning home after an eventless patrol. The engine sings a song of gas, lubricant and thunder. Willarm went back to his family on a leave. Pneumonia. I'll try to meet him and finally get to know his family if I can get the Haptmann to give me a leave from the front. The Hauptmann won't be happy to do it. They are always sending me presents and food and his younger sister sent me a scarf she done herself. I'm using it just now.

As I'm reaching the last patrol zone a new British biplane races in my direction. It seems the new one that everybody speaks about. Again I listen the Hauptmann's warning in my head.

"You'll fly alone, Rittmeister Joachim, as your puny wingman is with a cold!" "Jawoll, Herr Hauptmann!" "It's just a patrol! You don't have to invite all the enemies for your party just to become an Ace, do you hear me?!" "Jawoll, Herr Hauptmann!" "Don't let that desire to become an ace before time cloud you judgement!" "Jawoll, Herr Hauptmann!" "What are you waiting for? Get into your plane!" "Jawoll, herr Hauptmann!"

Now I really must be careful. I've been told that this plane is faster and turns much better than my Albie... Let us taste the veracity of that statement and try to prove it wrong.

Oh! He's fast. Let's make the first pass count for every bullet. He started to fire too soon.

I hit him with a solid bang. But he made some holes in my bird, and the smoothness of that flight. I think that I'll be in trouble soon if I don't get him down fast.

The way that bird turns! Incredible. It's faster than my and turns much better. I'll be eating lead in no time unless I can outsmart him.

Shot again! I must get his tail, or else. My luck seems that the Brit doesn't have a lot of experience in flying that plane. Let's Immelmann him!

Another round square in his fuselage and it still keeps flying?! Sturdy little plane. Let's see if you can take one more shot as you try that Immelmann that you are eager to do...

Gone! Hurrah! 5th kill. I'm an Ace!! But I want to pilot one of those...

After Action Report

I played my sixth solo scenario with my pilot - Rittmeister Joachim.
I used for the first time a SE5A and I'm just stunned how the solo rules make a great job with this deck. I almost couldn't defeat the SE5A with my Albatros D5a. Unbelievable.

I used again this new table that I added to the Richard Bradley Solo Rules:

Die Roll: --------- 1 --------------------------- 6 --------
1/12 Stall/Straight/Stall --------- Straight/Straight/Loop
2/3 Hard Turn R./Stall/Hard Turn R. -- Straight/Straight/Loop
5/4 Straight/Loop/Straight -------- Straight/Loop/Straight
6/7 ---------------------- No changes ----------------------
8/9 Straight/Loop/Straight -------- Straight/Loop/Straight
10/11 Hard Turn L./Stall/Hard Turn L. -- Straight/Straight/Loop

I play with an ace rule - Deadly Aim. One of the cards of damage I deal gives +1 damage if it's not a zero. But next scenario I'll add another Ace Card to my pilot.

This was a simple solitary dogfight to test a new plane.

Characters in the Campaign:

Rittmeister Joachim - 5 Kills Ability: Deadly Aim
Leutnant Willarm - 1 Kill (At home with Pneumonia)

Hauptmann Schroeder (Jasta 23 Operational Officer)

Very interesting once again Joaquim.
It seems as if the rules are quite well balanced.
If you had not been using your intellect and ace ability, how do you think it would have turned out?
Would it be feasible to fly two auto planes against each other and see what the game was like?

They are, Rob. It's amazing how each plane reacts to the next plane without my intervention. They don't even do very stupid things. My wingman is also played by the system and it works amazingly. If I haven't used my foresight and the ace ability, the Albatros would be completely outclassed. But I do like to play this way.

The more I learn about this system the more I like it. I must delve into its realms before too long.

You must, Rob. It is amazing how things fall so rightly into place with these rules. See this:

I am so in love with these solo rules that I use them when I play with my wife, and we play in the same side. She understands very well how dangerous is the "robotic" enemy.

Yeah... a very nice experience! Sopwith Experimental 5a is a fantastic plane, a beast hard to kill:)
