While not getting shot down by Son#1, I took the opportunity to paint a few planes, among them, this Fokker D.II.

Perfect as usual, John. :salute: Where do the model come from?

Thanks. It's a Shapeways. Kampfflieger.

Btw, today is the Fokker company's 100th birthday (so I added that in the title of this thread).

 Great work, John.
Always nice to see more variety in the Early War models.;)

Looks good John. If you have the ability to adjust your white balance on the photos, that will help a lot.

Thanks guys.

Keith, I have to admit my photographic technique is akin to "take 100+ shots and hope one or two come out ok."

Fwiw, the very first photo is much closer to the true color of the plane. The others are shifted too far into the yellow spectrum.

You should do an article on how to photograph planes. And now that I think about it, I seem to recall seeing something you wrote once that was along those lines, if not a full blown article maybe it was a string of posts of something?

Me too: aren't digital cameras a great invention for such as us ;)

I assume that doped linen was the colour intended.

That's a very good idea: there were some of the recent D.III contest entries that I wished had better photos, or at least more views.

Actually, a full blown How To on photographing these wee little planes is on my short to do list. Do you use any software to adjust your images after you take them? If not, you should at least download GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)(it's totally free) and at the least adjust your White Balance (under Colors > Levels > Pick White Point (an eyedropper icon on the right). Click on something that is supposed to be white in your image (the cross fields in this case). You will end up with something like this:

Wow, that's nifty. I have GIMP, but I generally don't get too involved in the manipulating of color or tones. I'm partially "colorblind", god only knows if what looks right to me looks right to you.

Thanks. I need to do more of the earlier stuff. And it's fun to knock out something basic like this. It looks good enough to put on the table, and it didn't take too long to slap a coat of paint on it.

Beautiful and basic. That is sometimes harder to do than beautiful and complex, John.
