I spoke to Dave from Pendraken miniatures today. He already does WW1 AA guns mounted on lorries for Brits, Germans and French in 10mm, and I picked a couple up - very nice. He would be interested in looking at producing a winch truck if we could get some reasonable pics for him to work from.

Amy suggestions?

I'm pretty sure he would do AAMGs etc if we asked too :D

Yes, Skytrex already do a winch truck and AA, but some variety would be nice. Anyone know what the Skytrex vehicles actually are? Are they generic?

I've been wondering about AAMgs as well, but there seems to be very few images of any real AAMgs other than pretty basic lash ups of guns on pedestals. I found one of a German crew in gas masks with what looks like a pom pom but other than that I'm drawing a blank

Anyone got any links to pics I can wave in front of Dave to inspire him to produce an AAMg ?

For info here's the Pendraken Daimler Marienfelde 3t with AA gun model, shown unpainted with a WoW RE8 for scale

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm89/Renko1917/Wings%20of%20Glory/IMAG0131.jpg
and here as components

Converting them to a winch truck would not be a problem even for me, but if Dave could make a specific model all the better

I believe Pendraken Miniatures was mention in post #1. Just checked them out. Very nice stuff!

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/

They do a pretty vast range in 10mm, which is something close to 1:144 - close enough for me anyway.

The only problem is the website doesn't have many pictures. They have 3 different truck mounted AA guns - a De Dion Bouton for the French, Thorneycroft for the Brits and the German one already mentioned. They also have standard versions and other stuff you could use as ground targets for Wings games.

IF you do order from them, could you mention you are buying for use in Wings of War \ Wings of Glory? If they see there is a reasonable customer base they're more likely to react positively to off the wall requests like AAMGs, downed aircrew etc

Sorry Ken. I sent my order in yesterday, but if I send for any more I will mention WoG.

If you can live with 3D printed materials (which would be off topic for this tread i guess) then there is Colins 1/144 trucks

A quick winch conversion with miliput and styrene would be easy..

Also AA:

Perhaps it's a cunning plan.

I was addressing the general request for info on AA guns rather than the nationality-specific posts that followed it. (So there! :p)

Sorry Steve.
I zoomed it up and could not see either a winch or AA gun so assumed you were reffering to the paint question.
Silly me. I should have known you better than that.:hmm:

All this and a `Wench Truck" too, all the comforts of home:embarass:!
I thought they had to go to Paris for that sort of thing!

I've see photos of some trucks with hand winches and some with gas engines running the winches. I wonder if this was early war vs late war usage, or German vs Allied usage, or ???

Pendraken Aircraft

Something I noticed while looking at the Pendraken website is that they appear to have a few aircraft in this range.
In the Middle Eastern section there are `Phoenix Scout Aircraft` and `Bristol Fighter Aircraft` listed but no pictures available.
If these are close to 1/144 scale to be usable they might be yet another possibility for filling in gaps in a collection.
The `Brisfit` is available elsewhere, Skytrex, Revieresco, SRAM and the Shapeways guys all do models (though they all cost more than Pendraken are charging!) but there has`nt been much on various Phoenix aircraft so far.

Shapeways do a Phoenix D.I, a Phoenix D.II, and a Phoenix C.I

All other Phoenix production was of license-built types, Hansa-Brandenberg D.Is for example.Phoenix was originally the Austrian subsidiary of Albatros.

The way things seem to work with Shapeways I`m not all that surprised there are a couple of Phoenix aircraft in the list somewhere!

It would be nice to know though what specific type of Phoenix plane the Pendraken model represents since they dont give you much of a clue on the webpage.
If its a C.1 then it fills a gap in the `card only` want list and its cheaper than the Shapeways alternative!
Presumably, given the section it`s in it`s intended to represent a plane type flown by, or in support of Turkish forces in WW1 so I`m guessing that it`s a C.1 but I could be wrong.

As this and the Bristol Fighter model are part of a 10mm scale figures range I suppose that the actual scale is about 1/150 rather than 1/144 so one might look a bit undersize when placed beside an equivelent model from a 1/144 range.
The difference though is not much worse than that between 1/72 and 1/76 so you can probably get away with it most of the time!

Ok, just to update things a little since I`ve just got my first order back from Pendraken.
First the bad bit,
The two plane models are definately on the small side, if you put the Pendraken Bristol F2b next to the Skytrex equivelant its going to look much smaller.
The proportions of both planes look a bit off as well with both of them having fuselages that look a bit on the short side in proportion to the other dimensions.
They also come without any kind of decals but I doubt anyone round here will find that much of a problem.

On the plus side though, the moldings are very crisp with less flash than seems to be the norm with Skytrex models.
The three mobile AA guns look very convincing beside the standard WOW mini`s and the cost of the models is reasonably cheap here in the UK anyway.
The Phoenix plane is a single seater so its intended to be either a D.I or D.II, I think the exausts are a bit wrong for a D.III but this isn`t a plane I have much knowledge about so I could be wrong.

Wow - that is spot on! I'll definitely have to get one or two of these - they were used in London by the Royal Navy from 1915 onwards to combat the Zepps. There's a wonderful French Delahaye winch truck preserved at the the Musee De'L Air at Le Bourget, Paris;

That last photo is interesting, not only several views of the winch car (it`s not really a truck, is it?) but also shows several other support vehicles as well.
A Hydrogen gas transporter or a mobile telephone exchange, nice targets for strafing!
