I am proud to announce that Origins Game Fair has been selected as the official convention of Wings of War Aerodrome.

What does this mean to you, the members of the Aerodrome?

It means that every year the Aerodrome Con Committee will be running various Wings of Glory WWI and WWII events at the Con. This should make it easier for those of you that would like to come in the future, to make plans on being there since you will know we will have a strong presence there.

As the official Con, we want to make it possible for everyone to attend that wants to. Obviously, we can not actually bring everyone to the Con, but we have decided that each year we will select one member from the site that has gone above and beyond the call of duty and contributed to the site in multiple ways. This will be know as our Lend-Lease program. Any member of the site is eligible for the Lend-Lease program. Besides the contributions made here on the site by any members being considered, reality dictates that we have to factor in logistical issues as well. Our goal is to cover the cost of airfare and hotel for this lucky person.

We are also going to be looking into special prizes and merchandise for the Con each year that you can only get at the Con.

As this is all in it's infancy, more things are to come out of this and as always, your ideas and thoughts are welcome.

That's great to hear, Hajj! Especially for someone like me who's going to attend this convention sometime in the future. I'm looking forward to some pics/video of the few events I won't be there so I'm not missing out on all the action.

I was going to say similar, but there are so many helpful people here it is hard to choose! Zoe, GullyRaker, at least 4 of the British fellas, I don't envy you guys making the choice...

Looking at the winner's contributions... much as I appreciate the kind nominations, I'm not in his league. I can think of a few others who are. but not me. Not yet.

Well done to the selection panel on getting it so right, and congrats to the winner. Well deserved!

What a brilliant idea!! Lend-lease member. Now that is a great way to thank those who post us so much joy and support. I will gladly join in. Blauer Baron

(By the way, will the airfare support be for passenger airlines or replica plane flights, possibly Atlantic-crossing flights etc. the price of Kerosin for a Sopwith for such a flight is rather high.):pLOL;):smack:

Thanks chaps. I must admit I was absolutely gobsmacked to get the Oberst's PM at the weekend. Indeed, my gob has never been so smacked, even by Mrs Guntruck! :smack:

I will try and uphold the reputation of Brits abroad - on second thoughts, perhaps not :hmm:

@Zoe - methinks the lady doth protest too much. I think you are a worthy candidate for this honour, given the amount of knowledge, help and advice you put into this forum, not to mention the prodigious amount of work you have been doing on the unofficial stats committee, the latter not being immediately visible to the membership.

Not as such, no. I knew at age 10 I'd be "the girl with the wonderful personality".

Besides which, "Spunky Girl Rocket Scientist" is more me anyway. Think "Zoe" from Dr Who, or "Kaylee" from Firefly. Or Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway in Contact. And yes, I have had to ask G/Fs for clothing advice before going to formal do's.

If you are planning to attend Origins this year, or even might be planning to attend, please PM me with your Full Name, Email address, address, and Telephone Number. This will allow me to add you to the Buckeye Gamers in Flight club roster. In turn, for a little of your help running our events this year (setup, tear down, assisting the GMs, etc...), you will be able to purchase a 4 day badge for half Price.

Try to get me your info as soon as possible. I will be updating this thread with registration info as it becomes available.

I'm still far from definite, but I recently realized that this year (probably for the last time in my life) I am in the unique position of having vacation I must use, and no one to use it with (the wife is still building leave). So, if I can keep the actual trip expenses reasonable, this has bumped up on the list of things to do.

Thing is, it seems an awful waste to travel all that way, and not zip over to Wright-Patterson. I saw mention of an outing last year; what's the likelihood of organizing one this year, or has it already "been done"?

Can't wait until next week!!!

(and my thanks to everyone helping to organize this shindig - it's a handful and a half and it's great to have you all stepping up to make it happen!)

Thanks Sheryl, and I hope I'm not putting words in anyone's mouth when I say; we, Buckeye Gamers in Flight, love doing this and meeting with everyone and making new and lasting friendships. And Keith you are a Buckeye Gamer now too. Look forward to meeting you again and everyone else. We are all hoping this year will be better than last years which was great. Steve after this trip you will be one too.

So, I was wondering... Do you Buckeye Gamers have a standard rule set you use for these games? It would be great to know ahead of time so it's not something I have to re-establish for every event I sit down at. Let me see if I can list the likely variations... :fixit:
Explosions in deck?
Special Damage?
-"Observer Incapacitated" icon may result in "Pilot Wounded" special damage?
Altitude?
-with collisions?
Illegal move: straight or dead?
Targeting: center to base or center to model?

I thought this might warrant a new thread, for ease of reference, but apparently I'm not cool enough to do that here... :envy:

We do not have a standard set... and some of our events are listed as advanced while some are easy... so the rules may change between events and depending upon the event GM. Sorry I can't give you a less "chaotic" answer

Consolation prize is a Con in Toronto June 16th . I'll listen in and try to replicate some of the missions offered at Origins for the lads in Toronto. [sigh].

Origins has refunded my and my buddies' tags. Excellent customer Service and a positive outcome for us. Thanks Origins.

At Origins I stick to the rules set in the game. I mostly use altitude and once I give a quick explanation of the rule everyone gets it. I tell them that if your climb rate is 3 then you get 2 climb tokens and on your 3rd climb you move up a peg and remove your climb tokens. Simple. I tell them that each move represents about 10 seconds of movement, that gives them perspective on the game.

Well lads and lasses, it looks like I will not be able to attend Origins. Two reasons, one good and the bad. Good reason, oldest step daughter is scheduled to deliver grand son #1. Bad reason, I am now in the ranks of the unemployed.

Congrats on the first grand son! Not so much on the unemployment! There is always next year though!

Well Michael, number one is great news, and may help to console you a little about number two.
With any luck you will be able to enjoy number one for the rest of your days, whilst number two will just be a passing phase.
Good luck to you and yours with both aspects of your life.
Rob.

Congrats Michael on the up coming package of joy and don't worry about the other that will pass. Next year my step daughter will be graduating from HS. I don't know what will be happening with me. But I look forward to her college days.

At Origins I stick to the rules set in the game.
Only problem is, all those options are part of the rules set in the game (depending on which version you have). Anyway, I'm off; see you guys soon. (500th post!)

Hmm...

If Guntruck is in the USA -, there is one Entente ace less at the Westfront...:minis:

Means more operational freedom for my Jasta.

Ok, one ticket for me.
