...or FAHFTDS 2011 for short... OK so maybe that's not so short after all.

Thanksgiving Day here in peaceful, chilly, Central Ohio finds my family gathering in the community room of my mother's apartment complex for a typical family feast. There were twenty of us in all present for Thanksgiving Dinner, and afterward I decided that I would gather up a few of my untrained pilots and give them their first lesson in aerial combat:

First, we have Kaitlinn, A.K.A. Kaitlinnjade (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?3211-kaitlinnjade), and her older sister Kandace, who has yet to join the site, gearing up for their first battle ever.

Kaitlinn, Kandace and her son and co-pilot Kaleb...

My niece Jillian, A.K.A. TheValkyrie (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?3233-TheValkyrie), and my nephew Cody...

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=27699&d=1322275021
Cody, and David, A.K.A. Cornholio (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?3234-Cornholio)...

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=27694&d=1322275013
Which just leaves me, Ken, A.K.A. The Cowman (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?705-The-Cowman), and my young nephew Kristopher as my copilot and assistant. (Note that Krysta, A.K.A. Incy89 (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?3223-Incy89), was close by napping on a couch, having drawn sick-leave for this mission.)

The Mission was a Free-For-All Furball with stripped down, no altitude, basic rules. I figured this would give my new players a chance to learn in a target-rich environment.

Jill's Albatross, and Cody's Camel fly into the fight as they are joined to the side by my new Cow-Snipe.

Off in the distance is Kandace's Fokker DR.I . To the left we find Katlinn, flying the BGIF Cow-Camel. Unseen in the lower right corner is David's candy-striped Fokker DVII.

True to the nature of the "Free-for-all Furball" a huge furry mess soon occurred in the middle of our maps.

First to auger in was Jill's Albatross, owner of a shiny BOOM card... and Kaitlinn gets her first kill...

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=27696&d=1322275016
Not long after coming back into the game, Jill gets some payback and send Kaitlinn's "Cowmel" spiraling in as well...

Unfortunately we had time for only these two kills after "playing" for about two hours and having to call it a night. All involved seemed to have fun, and the two young boys got to run around the large room flying two of my Spad VII's...
Ummmmm.... yeah.... that did not make me nervous or anything....:erk:

Oh... and before I forget... Cornholio and his green, flightless, turkey-like, good luck charm have indeed vowed to return once again for revenge.... MUAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

End of AAR!

We had fun... and I am pretty sure that I can get Kandace and her Husband a little more involved, and get them to join the site as well.

Good times, good times! Glad to see the family joining in a game. I've gotten this close to getting my #1 son to play. I think he's holding out until I either buy or make him a plane.

 What a great way to finish up Thanksgiving!

You obviously believe in the old adage "the Family that Plays together, stays together!" :cheezy:

I love the pictures Uncle Kenny :) except the one of me of course, but I generally don't like pictures of myself. We had a great time playing and can't wait to do it again. I think Kaitlinn is showing a lot of promise in being a great pilot. She did blow me up after all :) and Kandace and Cody didn't do to bad either...and Cody sure does have in flight "trash talking" down pat...I'm pretty proud of em all!

Wish I had such a large family to get in some flying time.

Nice to get a family together. This is what I like in boardgaming a lot. As someone wrote here before: "A family that p r e y s together, stays together". It reffers strictly to our game!
Fine pictures Ken!
