I wanna say that the United States Air Force Museum is restoring a B-17D along with the Memphis Belle currently.

Yeah, it is a B-17D, I hope the link works. I'm such a lucky son of a beach, I only live a short 90 minute drive from that museum, which was, the last time I checked, still the largest military aviation museum in the world.

Great link! I foresee hours wasted rooting around in there.

Oh man, if you ever get the chance to actually go there; you want to talk about days rooting around! That place has gone from big, to bigger, to huge to...out of this world!
There is so much material and information in those buildings now, and it just gets bigger all the time. No charge to walk right in, and they are almost ready to add a fourth hangar. The place is immense, to say the least.

The WWI gallery and the WWII galleries are spectacular. The aircraft are being more and more surrounded in a wealth of stories, information, history and artifacts as you go through the galleries. There are aircraft suspended from above, and the WWI gallery has a US observation balloon (huge) suspended from the rafters with a Fokker Dr.I Triplane suspended as well, inverted as if in a mock attack on the balloon. Stepping into that place is becoming more and more like time travel, as you can feel the history around you.
It is quite an amazing experience, you could literally spend days there going through everything.
I've been going there since I was about five years old. My grandfather was part of the planning and designing team for an aircraft they have there, in the annex at present I believe. The Fisher XP-75 Eagle.

At present, they have two of the F4 Phantoms that were stationed at the airbase I was assigned in Desert Storm, on display in the modern flight hangar. One of the Wild Weasles, and one of the photo recce ships.

Here they are (not the same tail numbers) in service. PS, the photo recce ships did not sport the Sharks Mouth, in Desert Storm.

Sorry Warren... My internet is only temporary at the moment and didn't notice this thread. If you'd PM'd me I could've sorted you out quicker. I'll start work on a B-17D and post it here when done next week some time.

It seems the SB3 had slightly better armament... Let me know if you need one.

Allan!
You made me look that up, that would be grand! I thought they entered service post Midway. That would make my New Year!
Rich
Nice; you could do some in french naval colours for the Battle of France.

SB2U-3 had twin .50s forward, and one in the rear, correct?

According to my info you're half correct... SB3 had 2x .50" forward and a single .303 rear.

If you've got a picture I can... As said, I found only a handful of pix on the net!

I can look around; I was sort-of knee-jerking from reading the Wiki article; BOF/BOB is likely going to be the main theater of interest for me with WGS,
With his interest in early war, Mr Wibbles might chime in with something, too (hint).
