View Full Version : What's your favourite number of planes to command?

We played WoW 1 - 2 times a month with 4 - 6 players.

Normaly I command one plane, but it's no problem for me to command a second one.

But I like it the most to command only one plane, cause I think you care more for this one plane.

In my opinion - if commanding two or more it get's impersonal...

For WW1 I only fly 1 plane, however in WW2 I fly 2 planes I find I need a wingman.

That's a point Alastair.

Never thought about that, but it makes sense for Dawn of War...:serious:

We usually fly 2 each....It's good to have a wingman. Also takes some of the sting out of that damn explosion card!

I tend to fly up to 5 but it's a real brain burner in DoW and I also play a lot with 1 or 2 which averages out to about 3.
3 for me is a comfortable number in either game.

Have flown a flight of five but it slows down the game too much even using all the good tips advised on this forum. Two is usually enough for me.

I could not even imagine playing 5 planes at once!!

While a head to head dual is fun, a properly planned 2 on 1 or 2 on 2 is very satisfying and 3 on any number keeps them guessing. Just go for it!

I like flying one plane but I've come to enjoy flying two, especially with the Oberst's new cockpits! Alot easier to keep both straight.

One, if you have more than one it's like you have a radio between two planes in your mind only.

I will fly 2 if I have to in order to make game work, but I like 1

I voted for one as that would be the ideal, but when playing one person against one person I find that having two planes apiece helps add more variety - otherwise our two plans just keep circling each other. With two planes a side, you can have two ganging up on one opponent if the other person isn't careful, so it causes more thought to take place.

Mostly one, sometimes two if the situation calls for it. Tried three once or twice....tends to slow things down for me.

Three planes, it's easier to cover and fly disciplined. And if one goes down, I still have something to fight with. And everyone are happy. :guns:

just enough to have one limping home while your smoking carcass burrows into the mud.

One or three is more historical, one or two more practical. (Personally, my preference would be to maneuver them both by playing the card on the lead and then using a jig to move them both at once.)

One most of the Time but 2 every now and again

That is a very interesting observation Terry. Last time I played Stormkahn I only had one of each cockpit, and even that helped a bit, but now I have two a side made up I will be able to assess fully how much it improves play.

I like one plane, but sometimes it's real nice to run two. two adds more fun to the game, especially if you're low on players. If it's one vs one, we tend so run 2 planes. but if we've got 3 a side, we usually run one plane each.

HOWEVER, if we tag in the two seaters, anyone running a single seater would then run two.

Though one time I ran a solo flight with one gotha bomber, and I also played the otehr side, where I sent 3 single seaters up against it....

They lost. the gotha just soaked up the damage and kept coming. Eventually after the third attempt at bombing the target, the gotha got into position and finally took the target out...

I like two planes. Four or more gets pretty complicated.

I enjoy flying one, two or three planes at a time. But I voted for 3. I like the strategy involved when flying three planes, especially when they are at varying degrees of maneuverability and strength.

Playing two planes allows to avoid quitting the game by bad luck.

But I agree that playing a single plane make you more concentrated on its safe.

I generally fly with a wingman, but depending on the number of players can add or subtract planes to suit.

Hi! The number of plane I prefer differs. I find it very intresting to have one on one duel, but even it is tense this kind of game will be long with lots of turns being played and then I loose a little intrest. If there are two players or more (with one or two planes each) it will get more intresting. If you fly three planes you will get the feeling of chaos in the arial combat. Three planes will give the game another dimension becuase you cannot track everything and you will make mistake. I like to play on intuition and play fast. It is fun (no not in the moment of corse) that your well calculated maneuver with your Fokker Dr1 drops in the right place only to find that another of your plane did a wrong turn and block your line of fire. You can call it realism. On top of that you have de enemy to worry about. This kind mistake will not happend if you play only two players with two planes.
