Fellow members of the 17th Fighter Squadron (Ohio), by the suggestion of
Tom(redcoon2) during the Dayton flyin weekend, and with the assumed permission of Squadron CO Major Tom (CappyTom), I am hosting the first quarterly Squadron gathering at a small gaming con (more of a gathering of local gamers at a member's church) called FloorWars, in Willoughby, Ohio on the 12th of November. I have the first 5 hour block, 12-5. The link for the con is http://www.floorwarscon.net/
I know that this is pretty far up the NE armpit of Ohio, but it is just off a mojor highway.
While I am open to suggestions for the 5 hours, my current plan is to run an escorted bombing mission, with re-spawning, for WOW/WGF. As anyone looking at the "Show your collection" thread knows, I have lots of 2-seaters for targets.
I am anticipating having a couple of my non-Drome friends, and possibly some new players join in.
For those travaling from the far reaches of the state, there are many hotels in the area. I'll try to track down a good resteraunt local to the site, unless we want to stay for the second block, currently featuring a WWI dreadnought game.
Hope to see many of you for it.
Karl

It is with great sadness that I must amnnounce that work will prevent my attendance at such a fine event. I regret not being able to engage in combat with such upstanding gentlemen as yourselves.

The problem with running a small business is that sometimes there is no one to cover for you. I usually have Sunday off & an occassional Saturdays or I'll take a weekday off. I have vacation days, just limited opportunity to use them.

Willoughby is about 45 miles from me and almost a straight shot on I-90.
I hope to be there on Nov 12th.
I am green (only a couple of games experience) so the rest of you will have a good time using me for cannon fodder.

OK guys: I know I'm late with this, but hey, you'd play whatever I brought to the table, even if it was a sharkpit.
The senerio is a escorted bomber intercept, with American DH-4s as robo bombers. I'd like to have a ratio of 2 escorts to 3 German interceptors, since the Germans will have to get through the escorts. The guidelines are below. Note that I have no repaints but atleast one each of the SPAD XIIIs, SE-5as and Albatross DVas (including Revised Deluxe set), but only 2 Fokker DVIIs. If someone really wants, Fokker Dr1s or Sopwith Camels can be used, and if pressed, Pfalz DIIIas are avalable. If you have a repaint of any of these, feel free to bring them. I haven't decided how we're going to choose sides, yet. Maybe a chit draw, or mutual agreement. It will depend on the turnout. Please be kind, I've haven't done this for WOW yet, and my last convention game run was in the 90s.
Guidelines:
FloorWars Wings of War event:

This game will be an American bombing raid, with escort, being intercepted by German scouts. This will be played with special damage and altitude, but no collisions. The point system is weighed towards the objective, that is get the bombers through, or stop them. Points will be awarded to both individual pilots and the teams they are on.
The bombers have 2 values, 10 points when carrying bombs, and 6 points for after the drop. For example, if the Germans shoot down 2 on the way to the target, so those pilots get 10 pts each and the German team gets 20. The remaining 5 bombers drop; the American team gets 4 times 5 points (20 points) for the bombs landing on target. Now each shot down bomber is worth 6 points to the Germans. Each bomber that escapes off the Allied edge is worth 6 to the Americans. Bombers that are damaged, and drop out of the formation roll a morale check to see if they press on to the target; those that drop early to run home give the 4 points to the German team. Scouts are going to be worth 4 as individual points, no team points involved. Respawning is allowed, though you lose 4 points for being shot down. If you fly off the board, you will return via a 180 degree turn 3 card pulls later. No point loss.
There will be a few special (house) rules.
1) The loaded DH-4s will be using the K deck; while in formation, they will move straight and level. If a plane needs to break formation, it will be maneuvered by the moderator (me), and will have its morale checked to see if it continues to the target. After the bombs are dropped, the DH-4s will revert to using the H deck.
2) Due to the formation used during the war, all planes in the formation that are behind a given bomber will not block line of shooting towards scouts that are at the same altitude as the bomber formation. The bombers in each echelon back were somewhat higher than those of the one in front. This allowed the leading plane(s) to cover the rear blind spots of the following ones. The lead plane was at risk, but then the attacker is in a crossfire from the trailing planes. Counterwise, if the attacking scout is 1 altitude higher than the formation, the trailing plane(s) will block the shot from the leading one(s). Any line of shot between scouts is treated normally.
That’s it so far. Suggestions are welcome, but please PM me.

Sounds good Karl, but I don't see any WoGS on the table and your Avatar is WW2 isn't it:confused:

Can't wait to see you buddy.

My Avatar is too fast for WGS anyway; besides, we have no official rules for 2 engine bombers in WW2 yet. Ken's bringing Gothas for Round two, time permitting.
