Just got the pair of Kampfleiger's DH2 models I ordered in White Detail delivered. One needs a prop blade reattached, but other than that I think they've come out really well.

Painted images to come.

Looks good.
The only thing that worries me is the strength of the spars for the back of the plane

Mine are `Peachy` too !
One had lost the Lewis gun barrel, but an easy fix...These are amongst the best Shapeways releases so far !
It appears that the `early birds` from Nexus/Ares. have fallen down the priority list, so we`re gonna need
some Halberstadt D2`s from Shapeways !
Also Fe2b`s, Be2c`s, Avatik and Albatros C1`s would come in handy too....lol

Brass rod would be a little stronger, surgical steel stronger still. But they're strong enough!

I've just twisted the tail of my DH2 to 45 degrees in roll - it springs back as soon as I release it. You have to use quite a bit of force too, it's not like the rubberised plastic of some figurines, it's quite stiff.

Got mine yesterday, very nice model albeit with a broken prop blade. The strength of the spars is OK, but having big sausage fingers I did manage to detach one of the tail booms from a wing, but a drop of superglue fixed that.

You are however going to need a seriously thin pilot to get into the cockpit, so get the files out chaps.

Zoe, can you remind me what you use to varnish the things with please?

They're fine. That's why I went for WD, it's nowhere near as fragile as FUD (and you don't need a gallon of varnish to make it presentable). About the same strength as yer average plastic kit, I'd say.

as i didn`t have suitable decals...been off work with

Great job, if mine end up half as good I'll be happy.

Lee, you're an inspiration to those of us waiting for our DH2's.

Zoe, can you remind me what you use to varnish the things with please?Acryllic wood floor sealant, but any acryllic polish will do for a sealant coat on WSF. Slap it on, then just before dry, brush off any excess - for example, the under-fuselage struts on a Brisfit may "wick" and accumulate some. You can poke the stuff out with a needle when dry, but it's easier to get it off while syrupy.

Then testor's varnish over the paint - that's a lot thinner, and clear as opposed to somewhat brown tinged.

Excellent, thanks for that.

Near-enough finished, just to add in a pilot and slap a magnet on the bottom. Might replace the roundels next time I'm ordering up decals, I think the blue on those is a bit too dark.

Looking good!
How do you actually play with them during a game? Do you move them by their base or pick them up by the plane itself? They just look fragile that's all!

I treat metal DH2s with kid gloves. But the Shapeways WSF DH2s are as tough as the WoW miniatures. They're lighter than the bases they're on, and if dropped, bounce. You may lose a prop that's not glued on well, but it takes effort (like stepping on one) to break them. They're springy.

Non-WSF is a different matter.

That WD material is reasonably robust, you're not going to break it with casual handling.

Those look great! The DH2 might just be enough to make me order from Shapeways!
