View Full Version : Tokens?
I'm confused by the threads that i've been reading. My impression is that tokens are being used insted of damage cards. Is this correct? if so, can somebody explain how this works?
Yes, the tokens are used insted of WWI damage cards in WWII. The WWI was originaly just a card game therefore damage counters were (and are) cards. But when Andrea started thinking about WWII, he counted with miniatures from the begining and tokens are more practical then cards.

In WOW WWI danage is figured by drawing one or two damage cards depending on the distance between planes. Does this mean that in WOW WWII damage is figured by drawing tokens from a cup?

Yup, and IIRC there are something like 4 damage types to represent the wider range of armaments on WWII aircraft

Exactly this way, Ed. There are tokens A, B, C, D. A Spitfire firing from a half ruler distance for example means drawing two B tokens for the enemy, from a longer distance - one B (if I remember well the type). Different planes, different tokens (combinations). Have a look at the DoW plane cards and you will figure out that easily.
It depends on guns which the conrete type was - for example: B is one pair of machineguns, C (I think) is a cannon. Am I right Andrzej?

A two machine guns, B one machine gun, C a cannon,D ????, is what I've deduced from emails. I'd like to know what the official response is?
No 1 x LMG = ! x A token, 2 x LMG's or a single HMG eg: 50 cal or 12.7mm = 1 x B token. 1 x C token = 20/30mm cannon. The weapons stats for the Spitfir and Hurricane are wrong, it should be 4 x B's at short Range and 2 x B's at long range. It should be the Belgium Hurricane that has the stats of 2 x B's short range and 1 x B at long range. Just for the fun of it in some games we give the Spitfires and Hurricanes 8 x A tokens, you get caught in that and your down!

Thank you for complete list Alastair :thankyou:
And for example, Vyb(i)ral's Spitfire has wrong gun stats - it is camoflaged in late war color scheme -> it must be at least Spitfire Mk Vb with two cannons. But never mind, who knows, he may change it for games ;)

From what I gathered from some very old threads (and stats for the real planes, cross referenced to the cards):
1x12,7= a
1x20mm= c
2 x 12,7 mm = b
2x7,7mm= a
2x.50=b
4x.30=b
4x7,7mm=b
By this notion, none of the planes are statted wrong.
I believe kombofink has it the rightest. A is a pair of light machine guns (even one LMG gets an A though), B is a pair of heavy machine guns or 4 lighter ones, C is a smallish cannon (20mm range), D is the monster cannon carried in the P-39 and also used for AA guns.
A is about half as damaging as B on average. B and C are roughly equivalent in average damage, but befitting the bigger shells and lower rate of fire of a cannon the C counters have more misses but also more higher damage counters.

kombofink is correct. Andrea stated this a while back.

Ed!
The DOW damage chips are more easily stored that the WOW cards! They average the same damage ! The way it works is if you have a shot at an opponent, he pulls his damage based on the range short or long! The damage is kept secret on his flight console! I store mine plastic storage containers.
