I've noticed the Red Baron Tri-plane has different cross markings then the one I found online:

eg.

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/download?mid=12eaf0ee33eee2c3f51612c193433f02&rtyp=lt&ctyp=other&ts=1224630976000

Vs

The difference is minor but when it comes to doing a repaint [eg buying decals] which one is the most accurate?

and has anyone else found other differences in paint jobs?

Well, the Baron actually flew a lot of different aircraft and quite a few of them went through multiple paint jobs. I'd either pick the one out of the Osprey book or do some research on DRI.com (see the link thread for a link)

It depends almost entirely on timeframe. In fact, the markings he flew when he was shot down are clearly different than either of those:

It's not particularly obvious from that picture, but in better shots you can see that the Balkan Cross (shown in your pictures) has been painted over with the later standard Maltese Cross.

This page is just one example of the many different options you have when looking for an "accurate" paint scheme for the Red Baron's Fokker Dr.I. Unless you want the one he was shot down in, in which case, you need to do 525/17, with the Maltese Cross.

Is there no "edit" function in this forum? :( Here's the link I meant to include:

thx for the link.

The paint scheme for his plane is going to be the red version. but its the rest of Jasta 11 I am trying to find pics of.

As for the edit function you need to have a certain amount of posts done before you get the option.

GW, I would start looking for the Osprey, Cross & Cockade, and the Windsock Datafiles that have either the pilots of Jasta 11 in them, or the Dr.I

Pseudotheist, I've upgraded your user group, you should now be able to edit your posts and such.

found an Osprey book "Richthofen's Circus"

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2464/richthofenscircusosprey.jpg

but its getting the book from the U.K that's not going to be a cheap experience. $11.24GBP/$25.60NZD [Normally $14.99GBP/$34.15NZD].

Will see what they charge for postage.

A local hobby shop that does model airplanes should have it as well.

I'd be so lucky.

I might give a few shops a call but Osprey is not a brand most book shops stock.

If I may, I'll throw another plug out for amazon.com used books and abebooks.com. Most of the Osprey books I have are 2nd hand, and they aren't very expensive either.

found two companies in NZ who could sell it one did it for $36.NZD+$5NZD p&p

So $41NZD all up. but would take a month to order.

the second company did it for $59.99NZD with free postage in NZ...

Well I didn't like any of them so went straight to Osprey they are having 25% off the books at the moment so got it including postage to NZ for $36NZD.

So not bad... wife is getting it for my birthday pressie.

the kids are getting me two planes so its all good. :D:D:D

found an interesting pic to help me find more info on the pilots of the Jasta 11.

http://www.earlyaeroplanes.com/archive/scheffer/1917.07.Jasta11.scheffer.kh.jpg

now I can do individual searches for each of these pilots and their planes.

Thx, Col.!

also thx Col.

As the Col said nice work nice work Blue.

I have been busy with finding all of the Jasta 11 pilots I think I now have most of them. Am aiming to get at least 8 Fokker Dr 1's that may change to have a few Fokker Dr 1's and a mix of the other types. just depends on what planes are available at the time I order my minis. either its going to be late 1917 or early/mid 1918.

I think Jasta 11 had mostly Fokker Dr 1's by the ealy/mid 1918.

got the book I mentioned earlier coming from the U.K have been told it should have all of the colour photos I will need to paint Jasta 11 up.

Will take me awhile to do but it will be fun doing this project.

GW, keep in mind that book might not have top and bottom views of all the aircraft. They tend to only do a 2-4 planes like this. They will have lots of profiles though.

most of the pics I have found have been profile. But I do have some that are topical and some with under views as well will work on each plane one at a time to make sure I get them accurate.
