I've at long last finished my Tripes :)

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17590&d=1311537104

This is the basic finish of the material (I forget the descriptor - perhaps Steve Blease can remind me as he ordered them on my behalf). None of the printing problems that seem to be surrounding the Fokker Triplane.

Nicely done Dave any particular Sqn ?

Nice paint job and all, but... I dunno... I'm still not convinced about 3D printing.

There's this graininess I detect especially on the right plane's cowling.
It's looking... fuzzy?!

Again, David, you work is not the problem. But, for me, the material isn't yet up to (my) standards. :erk:

:salute:

Well i`ve got to say they are excellent...
I`m still experimenting with dipping mine in glossy varnish to tone down the finish a little.

With regards to the scale accuracy, they wipe the floor with any white metal releases.
I hope my efforts come out as cleanly finished as yours !
Just to prove what a rivet counter i can be, the clear doped version should probably have
the larger `Pup-type` horizontal stabilizer...but hey they both look fantastic as they are.
Fine Job David !

they certainly look a lot better to me than some of the other offerings that we have seen. Nice paint job too Dave. Are you going to add pilots?
Rob.

The PC10 coloured,Nice to see an Australian pilot recognized N5454 F/L R Minifie 21 victories, Naval 1 Squadron RNAS if you had added "Hilda" then it would be Naval 8 Squadron RNAS same plane and pilot.
Nice work very tempted to get some of those. Are they spray painted or brush painted? Either way excellent paint job nice clean lines. I see what Bilbo is saying perhaps a little filler would sort that? After all the white metal kits need a lot of filling and filing.
Can you file/sand them easily?
Would have to say these have changed my mind in relation the Shapeways aircraft.
What finish are they?
I think I will be ordering some.

Yipes Tripes! Great paintjob on the both of them. I agree with petitbilbo about the "fuzziness" of the cowling, but overall, they look like playable models to me. Well done, sir!

Very nice tripes: I'll be looking at an order (Junkers too), when the summer issues subside.

 Great paint Jobs David!
I have ordered 2 Shapeways Tripes in the Frosted Ultra Finish which are now in Production & I had the same idea of doing one in PC10 & the other as the Prototype flown by Stan Dallas the Australian Ace.

What brand/kind of paints and primer did you use? I have 3 of them and wondered what to use.

;) G'day Chaps!
Well my two Sopwith tripes arrived today & I must say that apart from a little evidence of virtical lines on the Fuselarge sides the rest of the planes are excellent. Wings look really good & I guess a little fine filing of the sides will result in a smooth surface.

Oh one other thing--No Props (?).
This does not really worry me as I always think its kind of weird to see stationary Propellars when the Aircraft are supposed to be Flying!!

Hmm, we saw a lot of Highland Cattle whilst we were on holiday the past 2 weeks. Perhaps I shoudl do one with a shaggy finish and enormous horns? :)

The fuzziness looks a bit extreme in the photos but its not noticeable on the model in "normal" playing conditions. I id asimple paint job using Revell acrylics and sprayed overal with GW varnish, as I do most of my models these days. I caught the idea of glossy varnish a bit too late to try it on these (I started them several weeks back, but only got a chance to finish them this wekend). I'll probably give it a try on any future models I get from Shapeways, but to me the slightly rough finish doesn't really manifest itself as anyting serious or obvious once they are done.

Shapeways have the answer to the first part Dave. For the horns see Foundry's new line in Dwarves.

I always put it down to the strobe effect of my eyes. I must blink at just the same rate as the props rotate Barry.

My feeling in regard to props is that the engines turned so slowly you could still see the prop.

I ordered a couple of these today, however the only option was Black Flexible Strong or other coloured version of the material, white was not an option

its more of an artefact of the photo. Its not noticeable on the models when you see them in real life. I'd be happy buying more (and in fact I am - Caproni ordered)

just letting everyone know....i kinda requested it, so i knew a long time ago.
I suggested to Roman that Shapeways would struggle with demand with this one !

The HP 0/400 shouldn't be that far behind, then hopefully the Curtiss will see the light of day :)
