View Full Version : What kind of avatar do you use?

Aero825

What kind of avater do you use?

Do you use one of the ones supplied by the site? Do you use a custom one like mine?
Or do you use a photo, like, for example, Lugburz? This poll is just to get a general percentage of who uses what.

Thanks,
Hunter

P.S. The votes are public, so people will know what you voted for.

I voted for "custom" since mine is a scan from an old issue of Mad Magazine, superimposed over a blue watercolor background. The gold frame was also added. I suppose that fits custom a lot better than photo.

LOL! I'll think about taking you up on that offer. I'm torn on what to do since yellow is my favorite color but a Goering white avatar would be more fitting (especially since he's my favorite pilot/plane in the game).

That's up to my dad, but I could use something from you, do you have, like, an outline of all the German minis, with both types of decals? I need just one for each plane an decal. Thanks!

Not exactly. I figured I would make the offer to your father since it would be very easy to adjust the colors from yellow to white and fix some of the patterning. I don't have a range of blank plane silhouettes on hand. If you find an overhead view of a plane you would like, adjusting the scale and adding a transparency/drop shadow is easy. I'm not sure I can facilitate your current request as written though...

Thank you Hunter! (A bit confusing - You're Hunter and Hunter is Terry...).
I like yours as well - Very spiffy! (Would look great on a mini!)

As there are not many Swedes on the Aerodrome, I wanted something that looked a bit Swedish. Sweden wasn't in WWI (we didn't even have an airforce until the late twenties, though there were some army aircraft - See Wombat's thread on the Swedish Airforce Museum (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?4696-Going-to-the-Swedish-Airforce-Museum-Link%F6ping.&highlight=link%F6ping)), so the weren't any real life aces to use. So I decided to go with fantasy instead. Inspiration was a cross between Swedish national markings and the away-jersey for the team Sweden hockey team.

You should be able to find a camel, they still seem to be around here and there - My LGS still claims to have Olieslagers.
They have a web shop, but buying minis from Sweden is probably something you'd want to avoid, as you would have to pay both for the initial transport from the US and then postage back again - and the exchange rate for the USD is really bad at the moment. The price would be about $18 - 20% sales-tax + postage.

Mine's an Albatross D.III - there's hardly any of those around. I don't even have a complete set of them (only Brumowski), let alone any doubles to repaint.

Hi Kenneth! Just go to your notifications section where you access your PMessages & there should be a side bar on the LHS scroll down until you see the Edit Avatar section & if you click on that there will be a choice (reduced in number unless you are a contributing member) for you to select.

I think that I found what serves as the guideline for Avatars:

"What are avatars?

Avatars are small images that people use to identify or distinguish themselves to other forum members. In some cases the administrator will not allow avatars or only allow them for specific members. The administrator can also provide some stock avatars people can use, or they can allow members to upload their own custom avatars from their own computers. These avatars will be displayed as part of the user info in posts, as well as in the public profile."

My questions:

"small images" = # pixels x # pixels ?

"In some cases the administrator will not allow avatars" = I would really like to see a better definition of what is not allowable.

Mine is a custom one I did up.

Canadian Aviation Corp's Burgess-Dunne. The first and only aircraft bought by the Canadian government for use in WWI. All other ac, that I know of were bought by the RFC and RAF, and gifted to Canada after the war. This includes the aircraft used in Canada for pilot training during WWI by the RFC/RAF. The Burgess-Dunne was never even flown in Europe, although it did make it to England on a boat (in damaged condition).

Have used a couple of Avatars since joining with the first being a Reggiane Re.2001 Falco II.

I then discovered how many more were available after I subscribed with a Gold Membership and switched over the the British P-51 Mustang fighter. Then traded that in for a Gloster Sea Gladiator as that is what my WGS playing career began with and I felt that this ought not to be forgotten. Good way of remembering this fact / in a way commemorating this fact.

I would seriously recommend that you have a chat with Mike (OldGuy59) about the creation of custom avatars once you have found an aircraft which you would like to use. In terms of which types Mike can create ... Just take a look at the custom avatar he very kindly produced for me.

Mike is an absolute master of this trade as well as a friendly and popular Member if you have never met him before. I'm sure he would be willing to provide a solution for you. Hope to see it some day.

PS: Welcome to the Aerodrome Oleksandr from an Anglo-Australian. Noticed your recent arrival date - I'm from QLD but now living in the UK with family back in Brisbane.

Great to hear a welcoming note from a fellow Australian! How is UK like? I heard it is very rainy and cold...

About the avatar, cheers for the contact. As far as I get it, I do need to become a registered member (silver or gold), so will need to make my decision on that...

Cheers,

And later on I swicthed to Grunf, retired pilot and mad scratch-scientist character from Alan Ford comic book.

It may not be historically accurate for WWI, but...

There are three Belgian avatars in the Entente (76) selection Oleksandr - Coppens HD1, the RE8 & Olieslagers Camel - you probably need a membership to get to that.
