:salute: G'day Chaps! Capt Triggers reporting an after Action Report for RNAS Sqd 18.

We were requested to supply 2 Scouts to accompany a RE 8 on an important Bombing & Photo Mission to Destroy a new German Artillary Depot & bring home Photographic Proof of the Mission Success.
Dusty Rhodes & Justin "Kiwi" Thyme were detailed to accompany the RE8 in their Camels as I was "neck deep" in Flight Paperwork.

As the 3 aircraft approached the German Lines they became aware of two German Aircraft approaching whilst off to the West they observed none other than The Rittmeister himself intent on destroying a British Observation Balloon that had been directing Artillary Fire.

Rembering their mission brief & the need to ensure the destruction of the Target they continued to draw the attention of the Albatross & the Green Dr1 away from the Harry Tate. The Albatross circled away from the obvious Target Area to try to intercept the RE8 as it made its Bombing run. Fire was exchanged with the RE8 receiving 5 damage points in the melee but also inflicting some in return. The Camel of Dusty exchanged fire with the Triplane & again damage was inflicted on both Aircraft.
The Dogfighting enabled the RE 8 to unload its "Eggs" plumb on the Target & it wheeled around to the West to make a run for home with the Photographic Evidence.

As the RE 8 flew at top speed for the home Aerodrome shadowed by Dusty, Kiwi noticed the Balloon smoking with small tongues of fire appearing from the envelope. Sensing that Dusty would watch out for the RE8 he turned towards he Balloon to try to get the Red Barons attention & save the Balloon. Soon the two Aircraft were circleing each other & the Balloon but Manfred aware he was loaded with Incendary Ammunition, refrained from shooting at Kiwi knowing the Regulations regarding Incendaries.
Kiwi inflected good damage on the Red Triplane which continued to pour shots into the hapless Balloon & soon more fire was seen to erupt from the bottom of the Balloon and eventually the Crew were force to abandon the Basket & parachute to safety.

Meanwhile the RE8 was making away from the Albatross as Dusty continued the Dogfight with the second Triplane.
As the British Balloon finally crashed to the ground with smoke & flames enveloping it the RE8 safely landed with the precious Photographs but Dusty was in serious trouble from the shots from both the Albatross & Triplane who were incensed by their inability to destroy the British Bomber.
Meanwhile Kiwi had out manouvered MvR & had the Triplane smoking badly.

Soon the Baron's Triplane was seen to spin out of the Fight to crash land on fire close to the River but within the German Lines.
By now both British Camels were badly damaged from the attention of the Albatross & Green Triplane but they had the satisfaction of knowing they had enabled the RE8 to complete its mission & had taken revenge on the Baron for the destruction of the Balloon.
As both Camels spireled down away from their Attackers to Crash Land within the British lines they looked forward to a few stiff drinks in the Mess & the chance to report to Capt Triggers the details of their mission.

The Game was actually a Draw on Points as my boys got 2 points for destroying the Target, 1 point for returning safely with the Photos & 1 point for shooting down the Baron.
Col got 2 points for destroying the Balloon & 1 point for each of the Camels shot down. So 4 points each. We both enjoyed the game & Col reckons the Dr1 is the perfect plane to destroy Balloons with incendary rounds due to its terrific manouvers.
