While poking around for information about Gothaer Waggonfabrik (maker of the famed Gotha and Zeppelin Staaken bombers), I found an interesting article over at National Geographic about a recent attempt at rebuilding the experimental Horton HO 229 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229), Germany's late war attempt at stealth technology. Here is the link to the article:

Unsurprisingly, this was the same plane which served as the model for the Flying Wing featured in the film "Indiana Jones: Raiders of The Lost Ark"

I remember watching an interesting documentary on this a few months back - they recreated the body shape to see if it was actually stealthy but it wasn't in any way operational. Fascinating plane and history though.

IIRC, Northrop Grumman did build and fly a replica Horten for stealth research...

Northrup built several flying wings during and after WWII.

If you look against the first post, it wasnt my intention to suggest that the plane from Raiders of The Lost Ark was the same plane, merely that the Horton HO 229 was the source of inspiration for the plane in Indiana Jones (as that was a purely fictional aircraft).

I must admit, the design for the 229 was dead sexy ;)

Zvezda models used to make a 1/72 scale Horten kit.
