Trivia Quiz # 16:

Yes.... the Trivia Quiz has returned!

The last iteration was back in Sept. of last year.

Reminder: Do not reply to this thread with your answers, PM your response to usmc1855 or e-mail them to: Brian_hicks@usa.net

And here is the challenge:
(Brian_hicks@usa.net)

Identify the Type of Plane, and the Squadron/Jasta/Escadrill to which the markings or color scheme indicate it flew with. (Most of these also have the personal markings of identified individual pilots, if you can also name the Pilot who flew that plane you get an extra point for each one identified).

The winner receives a Medal, and has the option of developing and presenting the next Trivia Quiz.

Good Luck!

I've had very few responses so far.

C'mon men, get to it and try your knowledge. As a minimum, at least try your hand at identifying the model of plane.

Now the competition is heating up!

Thanks Kieth. In the past 24 hours I've received several great responses. One or two more days, and I'll declare the winner.

Man this stinks, if I was at home I could lok up alot of these planes/pilots, but being on vacation I dont have the time to do this quiz. :-(

If you let it go til saturday, I would be able to do it.

Daniel, DID YOU REALLY RECOGNIZED THE PLANES? Of course you know mine, but the rest is damn' difficult...

Andrzej.

Yes, I did! All of them are biplanes. Some are green, some are white, some are... And all of them are from the 20th century and have propeller. You see, I know them perfectly! :D

Hej,
I just think I know 5 of them.
It is very difficult.
I can only send the ones I know-
Is it OK?

That will be fine. I know some of these are rather difficult to pin down, and I appreciate everyone's desire to participate.

And the winner is:

Dan-Sam (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/member.php?530-Dan-Sam)

Congratulations Sir!

I received several submissions, all of which where also correct, but Dan-Sam was the first to respond with the correct answers. Guntruck and Boney10, had either of you been quicker than Dan-Sam, you would have taken it!

There where a few who confused #4, the DFW C.V for an Aviatik B (C1) , and there has been much discussion over the Pilot attributed the SE.5.a in picture #3. My source for identifying this particular aircraft to Capt. Caldwell is: "British Aviation Squadron Markings of WW1" by Les Rogers on page 120 (60 Squadron) shows a picture of A8898 and states "SE5 First issue flown by Capt. K. L. Caldwell".

These are the answers as I have them listed:

Albatros D.II. Jasta 2. Manfred von Richthofen
Albatros D.Va. Jasta 2. Paul Baumer
S.E.5a. No. 60 Sqdn. Capt. K. L. Caldwell
DFW. C.V. Flieger Abteilung (A) 239. (pilot not specified)

Nieuport 17. C1. Esc. N3. Georges Guynemer
Spad 13.C1. Esc. N3. Georges Guynemer
Fokker D.VII. Jasta 15. Gustav Klaudat
Breguet 14.B2. Esc. BR. 107 (pilot not specified)

Pfalz D. III, Jasta 21. Ltn d.R. Fritz Hohn
Sopwith Camel. RNAS 10. Flt. Lt. W. A. Curtiss

Hopefully Dan_sam will prepare and present the next round for the Trivia Quiz.

Thank you to everyone who responded!

Those are from the Historic Skin packages that are available for aircraft in the Rise of Flight, WWI air combat simulation game.
