Paperback Summary:
Mr Price details one day during the Battle of Britain, Sun 18th August, which saw the hardest fighting and greatest losses of any day during the conflict.

This is a brilliantly readable account if the days action, each engagement is dealt with from all sides, the civilian accounst of the attack on Biggin Hill are cross referenced with airfield staff, firemen and even the pilots. Accounts from both sides are also included to painstakeingly figure out what happened during the aerial fighting as well.

He's clearly spent some considerable time researching exactly what happened and has tried to pin point exactly the routes flights took, who shot down who and why. Great book, well recommended for anybody vaguely interested in the Battle of Britain.

A really tight focus gives this book the ability to examine the fighting on 18 Aug 40 from many levels; civilian, combatant and commander. After a scene-setting introduction to get the reader up to speed on the preceding events, organisation and tactics of the RAF and Luftwaffe, the majority of the narrative gives a literally blow-by-blow description of the action of 'The Hardest Day'. It's a good all-rounder for anyone with even a passing interest in the Battle of Britain.
