Looks like a Poppy.

Veterans Day, or Rememberence Day for our Friends to the North (and across the Commonwealth), a couple of days early.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but it's 6 days early.

Up here we wear the poppy from about Nov 1st until Remembrance Day on the 11th. It was not my intention to confuse anybody, or be cryptic.......it's just the time of year when such thoughts work their way to the forefront of everyday life, the pace of which sometimes seems to obscure events as the year careens by.
I do apologize if I seemed to be premature in my post. Having no way of exiting with quiet dignity....I will just exit.

we have ANZAC [Australia & New Zealand Army Corps] Day. We celebrate that on April 25th. not sure if there is anything else.

we wear the red poppy as well. I never meet my popa [my mum's dad] but she has told me a few of his WWII stories regarding North Africa and what he went through. some pretty scary stuff.

Cheers
GW

No need to do either. Nothing wrong with being a little ahead of the curve. :)

No one spill your drinks, I don't want Redcoat getting wet! That's an order.

I'm in the British Army, from 1992 to present (Well, at least until they find out I spend all day messing around on this site!!) :D

We tend to wear our Poppies from about 2-3 weeks before the 11th November, so it was not premature from my point of view. We not only have a two minute silence on the 11 hour, but have a church service on the sunday leading up to it.

"They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

From "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon.

My uncle only recently started talking about his time in a LuftStalag (2 years) and a little about his missions before he was shot down. He was a radio operator in a B-17, completed 5 missions, one of which was Memphis Belles 25th mission. He was in a different group, they shared the same base for his first 4 missions.

He was one of five brothers that went to war, two didn't come home. He was the only one to be in the ETO, the other were all in the PTO. The sixth uncle was too young for WWII, he went to Korea.

My daughter served a tour in S Korea, and is doing a tour in Iraq.

Veterans past and present are important in our family.

Cheers and a toast, may God watch over them all. My Brother Chris was a flight medic and served in Desert Storm. Mostly picked up wounded civilians and was shot at each time. He prayed they were bad shots and that one got answered.

Australian Army 1977 - 1991

The other day we observe here in Australia (I assume all Commonwealth countries do?) is Armistice Day (11/11/1918).

Regards and cheers,

U.S. Air Force from 1975 to 2010. Just retired in May and I'm still adjusting to civilian life. I raise my glass to all of us who have served their nation.

Cheers!
Frank.
