Chaps can anyone tell me what the colour of the upper wings of Wilhelm Schwartz OC Jasta 13 were ?
Or was there any DR1 painted light blue ? yes my next repaint :)

I found a reference on this web page (http://www.thebicyclingguitarist.net/studies/fokkerspeech.htm)to a quote from D.G. Lewis (Richtofen's last Victory)... in the quote he mentions that one of the planes in Rictofen's Circus being all sky blue... but it does not say for sure that it was a DR.I. I looked for a bit and could not find any pics or drawings of an all Blue DR.I. I have seen some models of the DR.I painted all blue however.

I was not able to find one in any of the Osprey books on the DR.I or Jasta's that flew them. I also don't recall seeing one in the Dr.I Windsock Datafile book either, but I'd have to confirm that once at home.

Same here Chris - found nothing all blue yet, mainly they are a streaky dope finish with coloured parts - Mohnickes Dr1 had a blue fuselage back from the pilot though. Maybe you should do a personal kite for the " Baron von Avon" !! :D

Bob Pearsons site Fokker Dr1.com site shows a blue DR1 with a green cowling but side view only. Looks like underneath is the standard light blue but upper wings inconclusive. oh well

That looks as if it's as good as we are going to get, if those boys don't know.

Hmm thanks Col for the info. Though take a look at Pearsons site, you will see the machine I am on about.
I was trying not to do a complete non historical plane, but I really do fancy a blue one, for some reason I cant fathom, thank a lot for the help though

James McCudden also mentions one in his book "Five years in the Royal Flying Corps".
He says he saw "an S.E. spinning down closely pursued by a silvery blue german triplane at very close range".
After his squadron engaged it and shot it down, it turned out to be Werner Voss.

The only pictures I've seen of his plane seem to show the standard streaky camouflage. I wonder how accurate the pictures are.

It is widely believed that Voss' Fokker F.1 (the prototype for the DR.I) was overall sky blue (typical under surface color) with the factory "olive green streaking" applied over that on the upper surfaces. This could account for the silvery blue description... as that has been mentioned in a couple of places before.

Now all we need is a source of DR1s. I need two and they must be Nexus ones this time to complete my Jastas already started.:dazed:
