So, let me know on here if you are planning to attend and if you have a game you would like to run, I will then pull together the time table and share it....

Chris H and I will run our usual epic game over two slots on Saturday morning Chris.
This year it is scheduled to be Copenhagen.
For some of you players who have played in former years it will be the chance to complete your set of all of Nelson's three great battles.

Also are you planning a Wings of Glory WW1 Tournament to follow Prague and Rome?

David Manley

I'd quite like to do at least part of Copenhagen as well as my air race, so hopefully the schedule will accommodate that :)

Isn't "Ace of Aces" on the Sunday our version of the Tournament?

I will try and juggle schedule to allow for that Dave.
Our Ace of Aces carnage Is a bit like a tournament, however if someone wants to run the European Tournament thing like Rome and Prague that would be great... just need a volunteer who knows what they are doing on that front.

As each game is limited to 45 mins and there are 4 games it would only take up a morning 1.5 /2.0 hr slot . It will need a min of 16 players 4 teams of 4 and 2 GMs

Not that it effects me but 45mins x 4 is 3 hours, plus whatever set up/recovery time is needed between each would make it nearer 4 hr slot..?

Flying Helmut
05-19-2023, 05:37
Yes, 4 hours minimum, and also two simultaneous tables for 16 players...

I very much doubt we'd get anywhere near that; maybe 8 players on one table - but it would still take 4 hours.

First we need to know whether there is enough interest to warrant getting them made - only with sufficient numbers can we have someone invest time and energy sorting them out...

I did it several times by a train via Peak District (I've been in Edale for few days back in 2012 with my wife). Leeds was simply closer, but this is not a serious trouble. I'll check Sheffield too.

A little bit on my planned Spanish Civil War game. It is early 1937 and the Republican Premier Juan Negrin is touring the front line by train, in an attempt to boost his troops morale. The Nationalists plan to eliminate him thus bringing on a further collapse in the Republican morale. But first they have to find him. Condor Legion recce units set out to locate his train, and once they have they call in the bombers to finish the job. However, the Republican air force might have something to say about that.

The game is set in a transitional period at a time when each side is bringing on board more modern aircraft, but the Republicans are are still flying all manner of interesting rubbish, and the Legion Condor have yet to deploy their latest aircraft in any kind of numbers.

I can take up to 10 players for the game

There are five RFC / RNAS aircraft and four Central Powers aircraft. With players taking on one or two models each the game can run - could take up to four more players if each player runs one model. Boards are complete, models and paperwork ready; really looking forward to the event.

After the White Cliffs Raid, I'd like to go with the Race for Glory, followed by Two Seater Mahem if that's ok, although I have to say, The Spanish Civil War and Copenhagen both look really tempting too :)

Apologies for my lack of communication regarding my Doncaster game. I have just got back home following a cruise with HM grey funnel lines.

Whilst I have been working on a scenario loosely based on the film "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" (P-40s vs pulp sci-fi style robots), unfortunately there are still too many things to do to make it ready in time. I'm still happy to run a WWII based game, and have a couple of options that are ready to go:

Either:
Coral Sea 1942: Attack on the Shoho
or
No Ball: RAF attack on V1 emplacements

Should be able to accommodate up to 10 players at 1 plane a piece or 5-6 if we go 2 each. Any number below or between the scenario should scale well enough.

I'd vote for the Coral Sea game but happy with either

Real shame you can’t join us Dave, I do appreciate it’s a long way up from where you are.

It's never been the distance, Chris but I'll never say never. Maybe next year for the big one-oh.. but no promises.

Not again.. different road but isn't that how you got them back last time ?! Very nearly robbed blind, he was. :( But he quickly mounted up in Exeter, gave chase, and made an excellent recovery almost in Somerset I believe. Not an experience I should think you would want to repeat David, huh? :)

As I am just leaving for Newark (thought I'd treat Mrs G to a look at the air museum and the ECW Centre) on the way up to Donnie, a timely word about the Brazilian is in order. Its booked for 7.45 p.m. so I suggest meeting in the bar by 7.30 and wandering across the car park, or if you want to make your own way there, it's still across the car park :D. You shouldn't be able to miss it, but if you do the address is Estabulo, Herten Triangle, Herten Way, Doncaster DN4 7FW.

Hopefully everyone's journeys have been ok. Due to ridiculous traffic, I am arriving over 2 hours later than planned so I will see you all in the morning. Looking forward to it!

A big thank you to Chris and everyone who put on a game this weekend. Fantastic to see everyone again and Karen's already claimed it, oh dear.

Those that where there know what I mean.

See you all again next year.

My :hatsoff: to Chris and all participants. It was not easy for me to wait 4 years through pandemic to visit Doncaster and England again. It is something like dad's holiday now, but I hope I'll taky my family one day too (I must say I let Veronika just look at my tiny planes, not play with them...yet). I live in "Belle Époque", thank you for it.

Dan, it was our privilege to welcome you back (along with the Dutch wing of Guus, Lex and Arian and Paul from France)
What a fantastic weekend, glorious weather as well.
So grateful to everyone that made the effort to attend.

Roll on next year which will be our 10th anniversary, so we need to make it something really special.

It was a lovely weekend (apart from the mushy peas - first time I've ever been able to slice them! :) ) Well done to Chris for organising, and to everyone for being there and making it such a fun event. The Copenhagen game was a blast (especially if you were in the Trekroner Fort), the punters in my air racing game approached the event with great enthusiasm (even Paul who managed to end up flying the wrong way round the circuit at one point), Lex showed us that Dutch pirate ships probably should have wheels (driven into a rock? Just drive over it!) and the Ace if Aces was even more chaotic and migraine inducing than ever, but still great fun! Also, it was great to see Simon there showing that he has lost none of his mischievous spirit (apologies for downing him twice (?) in the ace of Aces)

Roll on 2024!!

Looks like Chris won't have that problem this year. :D

Thanks for the games and getting to see everyone again, it was great fun! :)

For those of you who liked my WW2 Hawaiian shirt at Doncaster, I have just found that the company I got it from do a WW1 shirt as well.

Linkydinky (https://diyoufisun.com/products/world-war-i-aircraft-hawaiian-shirt?variant=45770587373877)

They also do a nice tank (https://diyoufisun.com/products/tanks-of-wwii-unisex-hawaiian-shirt?_pos=4&_sid=c0849828c&_ss=r) shirt, but sadly nothing to interest the boaty faction. I can't emphasise enough how heartbroken I am about that

Just checked, at least it isn't Covid, and I don't think Patient Zero is to blame as he appeared to be in rude health :D
