I was just wondering if anybody has realized the subtle difference between the AIRCO D.H.4 mini and the
De Havilland D.H.4 mini. I have, but I want to know if you know, or can guess.
You can also use this thread for general D.H.4 discssions.

Huh? I said MINIS

The double Lewis guns on back?

Nope! The guns on the back off the minis are the same, at least on mine.

Then check the exhausts.

I know that US pilots liked the DH-4B variant, which swapped positions between the pilot's seat and fuel tank... but if FFG wouldn't differentiate between Holtzem's D.IIIa and the other D.III's in tooling I don't think they'd tool that variant either. (Do I need to remove the Lewis from Boudwin's SE5a? I know many American planes weren't fully armed, as policy was "get as many flying birds up as possible, arm 'em as guns come in or can be scavenged".)

Then check the exhausts.

The Cadbury & Leckie DHavilland have the big exhaust pipes too - they're only missing on the Atkey one - so it must be something else.

The DH.4 was equipped with several different engines over the course of the war - some had side exhausts...

...and some didn't

That maybe because the US version had the Liberty engine & the Brit one had The Rolls Royce Eagle engine - nice of them to note the difference in the minis.
