So, on the back of the current wave of prayers and optimism, it’s time to start pulling together the lists for Doncaster 2021. So please can you indicate in this thread whether you are planning to attend this year’s event (Covid & Boris permitting), as follows...

A. Definitely attending (notwithstanding restrictions etc.)
B. It’s a maybe from be, but I hope to be there.
C. It’s a definite No for me this year

Can you also indicate whether you are planning to run a game, or willing to run a game. ( and if so what sort... WW1, WW2, Tripods, Sails and BSG)

I know there have been comments here and there in other threads but pulling everything together here will allow us to start pulling the event together. We can then go out with requests on which games you would like to play)

Thank you chaps.

Hi

It’s a definite from me, room booked at Premier Inn, subject to Boris. I won’t be running a game as not experienced enough, but may bring a filler game as I tend to e it early from others and a bit of fun.

A

Definite from me, room booked etc.

Can run WGF, WGS, BSG but not the "ginger stepchild" - you know of what I speak!

A - already booked

Barring any emergencies that may arise (as occasionally happens in my line of work)

Could put on a game of "Wings and Waves of War" if we are short

A definite yarp from me and my ground crew. Willing to put on an 'almost WW2' game - The Planes in Spain Fall Mainly Down in Flame. ;)

Please put me down as B - a maybe at the moment. I want to attend, if circumstances will permit. I believe that there were some guidelines on how to score games. I have ideas for scenarios for games to put on but mot how to score them according to the official method, so they are comparable with other games at Doncaster.

Hedeby
03-22-2021, 05:49
Thanks David, we can agree scoring later in the day, I am just trying to build up a picture of how many folk we are likely to have and who would like to run a game (and if so what). Interested to hear what you had in mind

So... now it’s illegal to go abroad, hope this isn’t the thin edge of wedge when it comes to not releasing lock down.

03-23-2021, 04:30
Hi Chris, the Biggles clan intend to arrive in force as ever, I still have the Fw190A3/4s and assorted Spitfire VBs and IXs to protect the Dieppe invasion if needed.
(Still haven't got round to anything but the most basic of test runs)
Mrs B will doubtless be Sails oriented, I will fly as will WhisperingDeath(Amy) and Hannah.

03-23-2021, 17:44
It's an 'A' for me and I still intend to run a WW2 game of a medium bomber sortie over Holland with a mixed bunch of Wellingtons and Blenheim's.
Do we have dates yet?

B gusting A from me. Need to get final approval from work and family but doesn't look like there will be any issues at the moment. If I can make it If happily run a WW2 BOB scenario, or Tripods if anyone is interested. Otherwise I'll just join in on whatever else is happening.

Had a long chat with the lovely Tracey at the Air Museum this morning regarding September. As it stands ( and notwithstanding the fact that everything could change) looks like we are going to be fine with a few minor caveats. It is more than likely that the wearing of masks will still be mandatory (but then again the rules may relax), also we shouldn’t have an issue with numbers given that we tend to have around 30 in number, even allowing for a few extra we should still be ok. We will have to limit the number of players per table to comply with the 1m social distancing rules (again assuming they remain in place), so may be necessary to have more games with fewer players, but thankfully we have had a few new volunteers to run games.

So all in all, as things stand, it is all looking very promising. Just hope that cases continue to decline and that the rest of Europe can get themselves sorted so that our friends from the continent are able to join us, as it won’t be the same without them.

I will be in regular contact with the venue over the next few weeks/months and will update you all as soon as anything changes (hopefully any changes will be for the better)

So fingers crossed we will be back together soon.

I'm currently in negotiations with the family (I may have to do a few diplomatic missions to Alderaan where many Bothans may die however) to try and make it up there in September - Probably looking at the 18th as the best date for us all! My wife and daughter are definitely NOT into table-top gaming of any description but we're looking at 'things to do' for them while they're there... Whilst ol' dad gets to move miniature planes and/or tripods around a tabletop for a few hours!

So at this stage "I'm a 'B' " - Wasn't that a Beatles song?... Oh right, 'Let it be'!

So hopefully I may just get to meet some of you!

Greetings! Just to give you a quick update... It's looking increasingly likely I'll be able to make it on the 18th! (Though erring on the side of caution, I'd still say 'I'm a B')

Is there anything I need to bring? All being well I'll have quite a healthy selection of Plane packs (though still quite the starter force by most standards) by then so I can load up with anything people recommend.

Any suggestions - for both on and off table - would be most welcome, I'd appreciate any tips!

Fly safe... And keep that tea warm!

Thank you! That's good to know... Even this early into the games (admittedly not against any human oppoents... yet) I'm really liking how the Camel flies ... and being a stoic british stiff upper-lip type, what-what... I'll bring the duo that I have at least.

Although she does ask that we all keep our kit on and tackle away as they had to catch and remove a streaker yesterday, he/she was running around in lingerie, tackle out and with a furry butt plug in, filming the whole thing with a selfie stick. It's a family thing and would involve our going to Canada. The dates just happen to coincide with our September dates. Have to say, I shall be overjoyed to meet my grandson for the first time and to celebrate my son's 40th with him (20th September) and the rest of the family. But by the same token I shall really miss attending Donnie :(
Canada seems to be opening its borders to double vaccinated folk from September 1st and the UK has announced that those returning from countries on the amber list, currently including Canada, will not need to isolate. But who knows what changes might occur between now and then. Hence the clash.

Hmmm… I am fully vaccinated but Covid-19 (and probably a Brexit that make procedures harder for UK) seems to make things pretty hard. A mix of isolation, a series of £210 tests and such are pretty complicated for a weekend there. Let’s see how the situation evolves in the next two months.

alas gents,
we have not succeeded in finding a way round the UK government rules re covid-19 and visitors from abroad.
Although coming from an amber country and being fully vaccinated we still need to take a PCR test on day two of our stay in the UK. Test needs to be done by a government approved institute, not being the NHS, at a considerable cost. Test need to be planned and payed for before entering the UK.
We have found it impossible to find a way to do this, Not even with the "assistance" of the UK Embassy in the Netherlands (just go to gov.co.uk and after some clicks you'll find the answer ...) or the ferry operator (same answer as given by the Embassy).
So, in short ... the Dutch vic has aborted the mission.

A subject I am always loathe to mention is one of cost.
At all of our previous events we have asked for £10 per person for the event (although we have waived that fee for those travelling from foreign climes). It was my intention to do the same this year. However with the possibility of a slight reduction in U.K. numbers this year it may be that we need to ask a little more (and by a little, I mean £2 or £3 extra). There are still a number of people who might be attending in addition to those I have had responses from, which might offset some of this. What with the uncertainty of actually having any sort of event at all we have not managed to hold the usual raffles and prize draws which have helped raise funds to offset some of the cost. I hope everyone understands...

Thank you

Next year it will all be different and the nice games and good company will be enjoyed again. Looking forward to Doncaster 2022.
First Dutch win at Zandvoort ever, nice

Hi Lex,
Strange to say the very last time I went to an F1 race, I was taken by my Dutch cousin to Zandvoort. It transpired that it was the last race there until this year which we did not know at the time. Hope to see you all again soon. Your lad looks as if he is destined for greatness, if he don't get asphyxiated by all the orange smoke first!
Rob.

Has anyone got contact details for Andy (Hawkhurst) and Marian (Deadly M), wondered how Marian was and whether or not they can make it this year?

Just a heads up for those staying the Friday night, might be a good idea to book a table if you are wanting to eat at The Cheswold, however there are a few more options than in 2019, including a TGI Fridays, a Brazilian Steak House (Estabulo),(not cheap but all you can eat with 15 types of meat on offer... I managed to get through most of them last week), a Tapas place, Nando’s, Frankie & Benny’s and an Urban Fresh Burger (also Taco Bell and a Dunkin Donuts). Table(s) booked from 7:30 on the Saturday night.

Already booked  Haven't had a Brazilian for a long time (fnah, fnah). :D

Edit: S'pose I should have asked if anyone else wants to try it and booked a bigger table....

Do you want us all to take a Lateral Flow Covid test before attending?

NOT REQUIRED DAVID... I assume the vast majority of us are double jabbed. Its certainly not a requirement of the venue.
