A lone Cuttlefish has been spotted out in the open by a patrol consisting of 3 UFAGs, one carrying a bomb-load, who quickly turn and race toward the Tripod before it can make it back to it's home cylinder.

Gary (Baxter, Doug (Windy Jack) and Mark discussing who will fly the bomber or maybe they are divvying up the Mars bars!

The Tripod spots the patrol but, in its haste to escape stumble and topples.

297962

Fortunately the patrol is too far away to take advantage and the Tripod staggers to it's 'feet' and starts heading for 'home'.

297963

The opening shots are fired...

297964

297965

All 3 UFAGs begin to find their range...

297966

And begin to inflict damage on the Tripod, though the Flik 23 UFAG suffers a jam-

297967

More firing and more jams!! Somewhere in the middle of this sequence the Tripod stopped to re-energize but I must have been too busy munching on a Mars Bar to take a photo!

297968

But, despite the best efforts of the intrepid airmen, the Tripod limps back to it's cylinder and safety.

297969

And the butcher's bill reveals that the Tripod was very fortunate to manage that!

Did it get away!

Only just - by the skin of it’s Martian teeth!

There is not a mistake in that last photograph. The middle Ufag did not get any damage at all, so hence no cards on the table.

No! The Martian supplied the Mars bars. The UFAG pilot was enjoying the breeze - why else would they call him Windy Jack?

My first thought ran to "wind production" :embarrass:

I didn't want to say it but was wondering about the moniker. Why was Jack called Windy? :takecover:

Since you asked: when I first joined the Forum I was relatively new to the game and not confident I would ever become an ace. However, if I was flying I was on the way - so the sequence Jack, Queen, King, Ace led to me choosing Jack. And from what I knew, it was very windy in the open cockpits of WWI aircraft. So if I was a pilot, of any sort, it was going to be windy. Voila - Windy Jack.

And here I thought it referred to digestive issues ...

Windy can also mean frightened, as in "getting the wind up". This obsession with intestinal vapours has got to stop. ;)

Since you have been a member since 2016 too I have to ask when will you become Windy Queen

It is a perfectly logical question following my explanation of the name. However, I'm not sure I want to go there. Maybe 5 years allows me to progress to King.

Perhaps we should let this thread get back to triplanes and tripods.

Great AAR - and I like the hombase cylinder, Wayne!
