From here we will start planning for next year. I will contact the museum and book the rooms... are their any dates we should avoid? (I will check Duxford dates to ensure we donít clash) Let me know ASAP please...

Hedeby
07-31-2020, 05:12
I assume Duxford will run the same weekend, so will try to bring our gathering forward to the previous weekend so as a starter for ten let me suggest the 10th, 11th and 12th of September 2021...

They haven't announced dates yet, but I wouldn't worry about a clash if you want to organise Doncaster around the usual dates.

Yep - Premier Inn,
Doncaster Central East
Doncaster Leisure Park
Doncaster
DN4 7NW
Tel: 0333 777 4648

The event takes place in a nearby aircraft museum - walking distance. Plenty of car parking at both venues. :)

Ok been on to the museum this morning, they are trying to accommodate everyone that got cancelled this year, so at the risk of clashing with Duxford, I have booked 17th, 18th and 19th September 2021. I hope we don’t clash but the problem is that no matter when we hold it we will clash with something, so to that end I decided a fixed confirmed date was better than none, so sorted. I hope that this works for as many folk as possible and I sincerely apologise to anyone for whom it doesn’t....

All of this of course assumes that we have some form of normality by this time next year.

mikeemagnus

Great Chris - Shall have to remember to book the accommodation next month though as bookings in advance are only going as far as August 2021 at the moment. Just checked :)

Usually about 2-ish, which gives sufficient time for an exchange of insults before getting stuck into a game. :D Anyone who gets there earlier is likely to be grabbing a bite to eat in the bar/restaurant opposite the hotel.

Recommend to arrive earlier if you can - there is not much time to visit museum exhibitions during the event, so you can do it before it.

I'm sceptical.

My OCD drives me to look in detail at Museum displays, and any "tour" of a museum the size of Doncaster Air Museum would take me a good 2 - 3 hours...

Indeed, I plan to.

Theresa Tam, the Canadian Chief Public Health Officer has made an estimate of upcoming vaccine distribution, and saftey measures for 2021.

The prediction is better than the one February, but Theresa Tam is still suggesting that international travel from Canada will not be recommended in September, even if the vaccine is widely available by August.

My Better Half isn't looking forward to open travel by September, what with variants propagating around the world. I may have to consider 2022. :(

Thinking ahead to what restrictions might be in place come September.... we might have to rethink the traditional Sunday free for all Ace of Aces shoot out. 20-30 people shoulder to shoulder around one table might not be possible or desirable for all concerned. Happy to consider any possible solutions or suggestions.

Dan-Sam

I am kicking the first one: if there would be another table (SoG cabin?) we can split into two groups and have WGF and WGS Ace of Aces. It is similar to Origins. I am raising a hand for WGS table and can bring WWII playing cards for division of teams.

Happy to consider any possible solutions or suggestions.

Depending on the numbers allowed to rub shoulders it might be an idea to have say 4 tables of x players in a knock out comp over a limited time period of say 30 -40 mins . Top x scorers of each table play on the final table. players for each table can be randomly picked by deal of cards for example.

Looks like we are full steam ahead at the moment for our get together in September - two months tomorrow we should begin to touch down in this sunny corner of Gods own Country. I will review the various threads, update and publish the list of attendees and games/tables. We do potentially need a couple of volunteers to run a game, so if you are interested and able, please let me know. Mike may have to go to Canada which means he can't run his WW1 game, but I will pick that one up and (Probably) run my 1916 Somme game in its place, so we have that one covered. Anyway chaps... watch this space.

PS. given the removal of restrictions around social distancing and mask wearing etc. looks like we will be able to go ahead with the carnage that is the Sunday morning Ace of Aces game as we have done in previous years...

Hi Iain, Iwill be seeing Simon tomorrow, I will speak to him and get back to you

Hi Chris, have you and Rob decided what major fleet action will be happening in room #1 this year, obviously there will be copious quantities of port and a few sea shanties and some pesky scenery to sail into..

Hedeby
07-20-2021, 14:35
As promised here we are with names and games thus far. We could do with another volunteer to run a WW2 game on the Saturday, there are also slots free on the Friday afternoon, but thought given Friday numbers and varying arrival times etc. we would always have a couple of board games going on (Zombicide for instance - always good for a laugh). There are a couple of Sails chaps missing from this list who usually attend, I will reach out to them (or speak to Rob) to see if they are joining us this year.

If you have a preference for any particular game please let me know and I will start to populate the tables, we can also juggle games/tables to suit the number of players.

Although appreciate this list might change

Lets start talking chaps and make this the best one yet... think we all deserve that.

Just a heads up from South of the Channel or as Boris likes to call it Amber Plus country.
As things stand there is no possibility of Mary and me getting into the UK without going into isolation and haveing tests on day 2 and 5. There is also the danger of the UK declaring France a Red country wich would really bugger us up as after Doncaster we head for Spain. But seeing as
A We are only here for 4 days and
B We came here not to look at a hotel wall but to mix with you guys.
it seems an impossible option.
We are both double vacinated and our health passport lets us travel in Europe but since the UK left the EU these count for nothing.
Barring a miracle and Boris et al dropping the Amber plus label its another missed year at Doncaster for us

Hi Chris, I've pm'd you some WW2 options.
Most of them are designed for larger numbers but if people take 2 planes the games should still work

I can do session 1 and 3 if absolutely necessary, there are options which will bracket BoB nicely.

A common situation :(

Much as I like the game (and love the TV show) it was never more than a novelty compared to WGF and WGS.
Now the loss of the Game Rights seems to have killed the game off.
Folks left and right are selling off their collections.
I've added two other peoples collections to my own, and am now maxed out.

So far, there appear to be no takers at all for a BSG game at Doncaster.
That's fine, so long as I can slip over to participate on another table instead. I won't bring my stuff if there is no need for it.

Sadly I must announce I cancel this year. There are several reasons (no direct flights to LBA or MAN, expesive flight tickets, extrem work rush [finishing two BIG projects during September] and cancel even by my friend David) that makes heavy-cost event for me. I am truly sad, because September England, cold mornings, smell of the museum buildings and, the most important, the group of extraordinary people around this gathering is something that means a lot for me. This sure doesn't look good :hmm:

I'm still under the impression that we (coming from an amber ountry)
- need to be fully vaccinated,
- need to be tested with a negative result max 48 hours before setting out to the UK (and that's a free test in the Netherlands)
- need to take a test in the UK on or before the 2nd day of our stay, day of arrival in the UK counting as day zero.
So we have to take a test on friday or saturday.
However, the big problem is ... we need to arrange/make an appointment and pay for that test before arriving in the UK ...

Do I detect a hint of disillusionment with regard to our glorious BoJo?

TWO WEEKS TO GO....Even Boris can’t screw this up for us now (I hope)

Not sure it's up to him. Although CoViD-19 spreads mostly via the mouth and nose, scientists now conclude that the greatest risk comes form a$$holes..
Have a safe and happy time chaps. ;)

My SA isn't great ATM. Are we doing a BSG game on Friday?

And talking of Friday, what time are we kicking off? I'm travelling up from work in London

I will be on site from around 12:45, things will start happening as soon as there are enough folk to start playing.

I'm in the Premier Inn from Thursday evening, so will be around to help out Friday.

I thought I might actually look around the museum (something I've never actually done ) Friday morning.

ONE WEEK TO GO....
Just a few name badges to print as well as scoring charts/sheets and I think we’re all good this end... however it’s party time today as my granddaughter turns 11, so not going to happen today, lol

Hey Guys,
we hope you had a wonderful friday and saturday playing. And of course the nice evenings in the pub and restaurant.
We'd love to have been there.

On Friday Lex, Arjan and myself enjoyed a game of Wings (WW1) and a game of Zombiecide, separated by an Indonesian dinner.

On saturday the three of us travelled to Belgium to visit the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces in Brussels. I can seriously recommend it :sAprvd:

Today you're playing "Ace of Aces" .... first time without foreigners joining in the competion. Who knows  ... this time the British side might even come up winners :singin::clap:

Have FUN,
cheers,
Guus, Lex, Arjan :salute:

HOT NEWS OFF THE PRESS.....
After 8 attempts the Ace of Aces game was won by the British, by one point, courtesy of two Germans colliding and destroying each other in the very last round of the game.

In other news, I am delighted to announce that the winner of this year’s Eagle Trophy is Mark (Woof) who had a storming Ace of Aces with 4 kills and zero losses, which combined with a strong display over the weekend gave him a well deserved win on his Doncaster debut.

Massive thanks to everyone who made it to Doncaster this year... pictures and reports, will, I am sure follow shortly

...and, possibly, because I found myself flying for the British, for a (very disturbing) change! :p

Yes indeed, many congratulations to Mark

I didn't get to chat to him over the weekend (something to do with a twenty year historical gap between WGF and WGS) but I hope to remedy that at some subsequent show, or the next Donnie, where we all hope he will return to defend his title!

Cheers for a great day, great to see you all again. Well done Mark for winning the Ace of Aces and Simon the sails trophy.

I'll leave Chris to update everyone on the others.

Sean and I had a great game, even though I drew the dreaded boom card twice.
