Evening all,

I posted this on the main forum a while back but got no joy so I thought I'd report here since the august membership of the GB mess seems to be rather more switched on than the general populace :)

Anyway, I wonder if I could seek your thoughts on a variant of the Fokker D.VII. I'm looking at the twin seat V.35. Any thoughts on which manoeuvre deck would be appropriate for this one? I would imagine that the extra weight would mean that the D.VII's original impressive performance wouldn't be achieved. I'm guessing something like an S deck would work?

Hmm, well, having done some more research it would appear I was a little confused. The V.35 would seem to be a simple 2 seater in the same tandem style as a Tiger Moth, and the second position wasn't armed. There was, however, a scaled up design that featured an observer with a machine gun but that was alarger plane. Perhaps that might be a good canditate for a conversion from the Furuta D.VII. If I had half a brain I'd remember the designation but it (plus the page I managed to find on it via Google) have turned to mush :(

I looked in Jane's but that has nothing about it.

Presumably you have had a gander at this thread?

Your 'scaled up design' - are you thinking of the V38 which was produced as the C-1?

Thats the thread I was looking for but couldn't find :)

And yes, I think it was. So, any thoughts on V.38 stats?

Yes, I know I've got some (including a 1959 aero mag that was tucked inside "Fokker: the man and his aircraft" that I got second-hand).

I can dig some out tomorrow (or tonight if I'm not too p****d after games night) :o

Right then, let's see what we have. To the Euros amongst us, apologies that the old U.K. farts still use imperial dimensions.

Harleyford's "Fokker - the man and his aircraft": Engine - 185hp BMW, Span 34' 6", Length 23' 9", weight (empty) 1881 pounds, weight (gross) 2761 pounds. Subsequently used 160hp BMW, 220hp BMW and 160hp Oberursal engines.

From Air Progress Spring 1959:
Essentially a "stretched" (8" longer) D.VII with a 185hp BMW. Span was 34' 8", area was 290 sq feet. Speed was 112 mph, climb to 2000' was 3 minutes at gross weight of 2576 pounds.

Aircraft of WW1 (Herris & Pearson):
185hp BMW engine, max speed 108.7 mph, ceiling 19,700 feet, length 23' 8.6", weight 2601 pound unloaded.
