I'll have to make this quick since I have a pinewood derby to attend shortly.

Our regularly scheduled Friday night GURPS game was postponed (the GM [me] just wasn't able to find the time to prep something), so we played Wings of War. The trees delineate the boundaries of the playing area.

I did not know it was fuzzy hat night.

Mike is handing out the damage cards.

The ladies mix it up.

Poor little Albatros... you may want to move somewhere else.

First battle... a nimble S.E.5a (Lisa), a lumbering RE.8 (Zach), and a redoubtable Camel (Mike) against a sturdy Albatros D.Va (Katherine), a garish LFG Roland C.II (me), and the legendary Fokker Dr.I (Paul).

My plane has violated house rule number one, "Don't catch on fire." In the course of the evening my planes violated that rule THREE times. Silly planes.

Zach's RE.8 is out.

Thus went the first of three dogfights at evening. We Central Powers planes lost, but I was able to limp of the board before being destroyed.

More later...

You failed to mention the theme of the evening:
MrMacek's on FIRE!

Wish I could play on Monday, but Erin and I are shopping for little man's first Twin sized bed.

Such dutiful Maryland players posting their reports and their photos! Thanks. It looks like the Entente remembered to fly as a team.

If I were in that Albatros, I might not want to be that close to a flaming Roland.

I hope a good time was had by all.

Nice pics and it's good to see a few ladies enjoying the game.

It's either cold in Maryland or wearing fur-lined flying helmets for games is de rigueur there ;)

Cool picks! I wish I could get my mom to play.

Thanks! I'll post more later, but we've just gotten back from cub scouts and now we're all hungry for sushi.

Zach, if memory serves my Breguet in game 2 didn't catch fire. I took a measly 7 points of damage during the second game, making up for the fact that the first time I used that plane it was toast after the second exchange.

Of the many good lines uttered during that game, one of my favorite was from my wife, "you need to find a blank plane for me so I can do my own paint scheme." I told her I would, if she bought me the Johnson/Prince balloon for Valentine's Day.

Great Pics... and love the fuzzy hats! ;)

Paul was wearing a fuzzy hat too at one point, but I didn't catch a pic of it.

Dogfight 2

I think the game would have gone quicker if we hadn't stopped after every turn to snap pics. 8^)

top left to bottom right... Breguet BR.14 B2 (me), UFAG C.1 (Mike), S.E.5a (Lisa), Camel (Zach), Dr.I (Paul), D.Va (Katherine)

It's an easy game, but every once in awhile one might need to look at the rules to double-check the effects of special damage.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141113.jpg
At this point everyone has taken damage, but we're all still chugging along.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141114.jpg
The UFAG is still smoking.

The second scenario was probably the quickest of the three we played that night. Two planes exploded within a turn of each other (one from each side), and next thing you know it was two against one.

For the first dogfight, we decided on who was going to play which side by drawing chits from a cup. I noticed that after her plane was shot down, Katherine was practicing maneuvering her plane on an unused portion of the table. That was pretty cool. So instead of making everyone draw again we asked if anyone wanted to play the same plane, which she did, so only a few of us drew randomly for game 2 and 3. Since we were being fairly random, we didn't really worry too much about trying to balance things using the point costs that have been posted here. I suspect, from how quickly our side won this one, that the points were heavily in our favor.

I think there was a pretty heavy Allied bias in all three games, with the most even being the first due to my crappy RE8 bringing down our average.

My Camel charging in early in the third game. I played two seaters the other two games, and did much better with the nimble scout.

Flammenkoph Fuzzyhat bursts into flames after a volley.

Fate of the RE8 in game one. It did NOT last very long. I knew it was a kinda crappy plane, but I thought if I could keep it near the scouts and use them as escorts I would be able to stay alive. The escorts were WAY fast for me (and I think they may have gotten annoyed at me reminding them that I had called for their escort service.)

Just plane mean. ;-)

Oh, and I think the show stopping line for the night was my exclamation "This is NOT cheese!" after biting into what I thought was a square of colby jack, and finding it really to be creamcycle fudge. It is difficult to describe how briefly confused I was, expecting savory cheese and finding VERY sweet orangie fudge.

The other amusing thing that happened is that I wanted to pick up a copy of Flight of the Giants before the game. John had mentioned the game store at Savage Mill (Family Games Store) and it had come up a few times here recently as well. So I decided to check it out since I knew there was a Rams head there and I could get dinner as well.

So I am looking around the store and run into Flammenkopf talking to the clerk!

I ended up picking up FotG, a DH.4 and a Thomas puzzle for my son. There was so much cool stuff there that I pretty much made myself leave before more money was removed from my wallet.

I love the cotton wool "smoke" but tell me do you light it with a match when you catch fire or just dab some red dye on it ????

Ouch! I don't want to do anything that would make this hobby even more expensive!

Last set of photos... from the third dogfight.

One the first turn...

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141117.jpg
... the planes from the Central Powers are bunching up? Aaaaahhhhh... what I wouldn't have given for a well-placed AA round.

"Hey, we're over here!"

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141119.jpg
That's more like it. My wife is trying to be sneaky and do an end run around us in her Roland.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141120.jpg
As you can plainly see my Sopwith Snipe has decided to violate house rule 1, "Don't catch on fire." It fortunately survived, only to get hit and catch on fire again.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141121.jpg
From top to bottom, UFAG C.I (Paul), a not only on fire but smoking as well Sopwith Snipe (yours truly), S.E.5a (Katherine), a nimble yellow-tailed Pfalz D.III (Mike), a sturdy DH.4 (Zach), and the versatile yet garish LFG Roland C.II (Lisa).

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141122.jpg
The Pfalz and the D.H.4 both go down in flames. My Sopwith Snipe is still smoking, but the fire has gone out.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141123.jpg
Zach's plane took two A-deck hits, both at +1 (from that little yellow guy flying around by his shoulder), for a total of 11.

http://www.piratebrethren.com/gaming/01141124.jpg
Why am I grimacing? You guessed it, my Snipe took another hit that caught it on fire.
Coincidentally, the coffee choice that evening was called Fireball!

And that's it from this Friday Night Dogfight! Stay tuned for next week's Saturday Afternoon Slugfest!

Oh, I forgot to mention the fact that after Katherine in the S.E.5a finished off the last German, I decided for fun to see what my final fire damage card would have been -- EXPLOSION!

Even though that Pfalz did 11 damage to me, I did enough to him to bring him down the same turn.
Its just that my DH4 was only scratched 2 turns prior.

Remember to spray it with some hair spray first... makes for a more dramatic effect when you ignite it!

Great pictures and advert for the social side of WoW. Looks like everyone had a good time.

Thanks. I think everyone enjoyed themselves, which is all one can really hope for during an evening of gaming.

Did you all play today? I have been regretting leaving my minis all weekend. I have had a huge itch to paint, but no models! :(
